The Pyramid of Success

Recommended Posts

I had the pleasure of meeting John Wooden once in 2002. Now, I am by no means a basketball fan. However, John Wooden is widely regarded as probably the best college basketball coach ever, if not the best college coach in any sport.

His greatness as a coach, however, pales in comparison to his greatness as a man.

I pulled up his "Pyramid of Success" to take a look at it again. You can find it here.

I figure the blocks for which I need the most improvement are: industriousness; enthusiasm; and intentness.

For anyone looking at a guide to self-improvement, take a look at this and learn it.:)

I think that's the right URL. I just got one "block" in the pyramid when I clicked the link that you gave.

Wooden's a pretty impressive man. Made some decisions in the climate of the college basketball world of the time that we would frown upon today, but his leadership and player development skills (developing them both as players and as people) are unparalleled.

Hmmm, this goes well with my retirement thread... Sheesh, what's the bonfire coming to? ;) Today is certainly a change from talking about boobs and skydiving cats! :D

I really like that pyramid of success - anybody know if there's a printer friendly version of that around? I'd like to hang it in my office.
Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!

That's the sort of thing that I've only recently become interested in.... I'm moving from being an out & out techie to a project manager and have been reading loads, trying to pick up tips and good work practices (actually there's an awfull load of duff stuff, so it helps to get reccomendations from others... even from a different industry).

I initially found it strange that a lot of Sucess guru's were sports [wo]men but it shouldn't come as such a shock... I'd been around highly driven sports folk for a few years now (Adventure Racing) and seen how driven they are at their sport... no surprises that, that crosses over the work/play boundary...
