dropdeded 0 #4 April 4, 2006 Good deal man. Smoking sucks!! Hope you make it a permanent deal, been about 2 years for me and I still feel the effects of 20+ years of inhaling that crap. Again, good luck!! dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -

Dumpster 0 #6 April 4, 2006 Day Four - I almost caved in, and fired one up, but was able to stick it out. My son was really pissing me off last night (you know how a 14 year old boy can be-) but I was able to keep my act together. So far I don't need a place to bury any bodies - yet - Hopefully this will pass soon. I'm not alot of fun to be around right now! Easy Does It
NWFlyer 2 #7 April 4, 2006 Stick with it... a 14 year old's gonna keep pushing your buttons (IIRC, it's in the job description ). And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Dumpster 0 #8 April 4, 2006 Oh yeah - He does - After living with his Mom for years (with little rules/structure) then coming to live with me (lots of rules, very little wiggle room) He's a bit rebellious at times too (natural) So I've had to pin his ears back once or twice. Yep - I know I can be stronger than those damn cigarettes! And I'm saving some tall cash, too! Easy Does It
NWFlyer 2 #9 April 4, 2006 QuoteYep - I know I can be stronger than those damn cigarettes! And I'm saving some tall cash, too! Got something fun planned for all that cash? Maybe that's a way to add an incentive - plan something (trip? toy?) with the money you've saved in 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, whatever.
briguy 0 #10 April 4, 2006 QuoteGave up the cancer sticks as of midnite Friday night. good for you, smoking is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. my uncle quit cold turkey and lost his urge to smoke after two weeks. how'd he do it? he hates black jelly beans. anytime he got the urge to smoke, he'd make himself eat a handful of black jellybeans. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dumpster 0 #11 April 4, 2006 I figure: 1 carton/ week @ $35.00 carton (nominal) x 52 = $1820.00 / year, / 12 = $151.00 bucks a month = payment on a new (or used) motorcycle. Easy Does It
Dumpster 0 #12 April 4, 2006 Yeah - I've done it before, I was off for three years. Had just one drag one night at the bar and whammo - Back up to a pack a day in about three weeks. The first two weeks is the bitch. Easy Does It
skydiver30960 0 #13 April 4, 2006 Motorcycle? So you're going to give up one incredibly dangerous habit and pick up another incredibly dangerous habit? Oh wait, we jump out of airplanes... raff 4 #14 April 4, 2006 Perhaps if you realize that the choices really are "Live or smoke", it will help the resolve. My personal epiphany came when I found myself, sick as hell one day, saying to myself, "I wish I felt better so I could smoke." Good luck. 27 years for me last January. If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.

dholmes 0 #16 April 4, 2006 Congrats. I am on day 13 of not smoking!!!!! I quit before as well. I was smoke free for two years and like a dumb ass, i went back to smoking after having "just one". I don't remember last time being this hard. I am doing so well today and am proud of myself. tomorrow is officially two weeks....so I can make it. Just remember that you can do it and having that smoke won't make anything better!!! Good luck to ya and keep us updated
SpeedRacer 1 #17 April 4, 2006 don't foret if you quit: you still have those nicotine receptors sitting on your brain cells. so even if you have quit for a few years, one cig is enough to wake them all up again. I smoked briefly when I was 17. What helped me to quit was the fact that cigs taste & smell really f&*king bad & they sap your strength. actually, that's what kept me from getting hooked on them in the first place.
