skydiving movie mistakes

Last night I saw Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
The entire skydive scene can be classified as a movie mistake.

- Her first jump was a solo freefall jump
- She also managed to pull the reserve handle and get the main.

I see I am not the first person to spot this:

are you sure it's the reserve handle ??
I think it is a D-ring ripcord used for spring loaded PC's.. Which is strange because she has a BOC... But it is more visual to have someone pulling a ripcord than pulling a Hand-Deployed PC.

Well I have a bit of news. For all of you that want to know about movies with skydiving in them, Gasson has been cataloging them for a while. He will have a list of them on his site in the near future and it will even include where you can buy them if they are still available.

I was shaking my head pretty hard at the time and I wasn't ABOUT to rewatch that piece of garbage.

ha ha, I managed to sit through that for a while too:

She did indeed have a camera helmet on (First Jump)
and she had a pull out system (Which I think still had a stowed main and pilot chute as she came drifting down.
Yes, she had the metal reserve handle in her han as she was steering towards the pig pit!

Very funny indeed.

Also note some irregularities in the scene, and yes I actually watch the whole thing…..

Solo jump as first jump
Camera and camera suit
Deployed with right hand and ended with metal in hand
PC attached to canopy, Metal = Reserve = Freebag
Canopy ride revealed both handles secure in the webbing + main deployed

Would love to know what the reasoning behind all the anomalies are or is it as simple as bad research…

decisions made by non skydivers for better impact.

oh BTW - there are still ripcord systems out there - so the formula of

[Metal = Reserve = Freebag] = FALSE

I remember seeing a clip of that some time ago.

Isn't in one scene, her slider is down at the risers, but in the next, it's halfway up the lines?

I've done that. With light tandem students it's not hard.

Done that too! Heck, I once hung on to someone during opening, attached a rope to him, and rappelled down 160 feet while he was flying about.

if you look at the "pull" you can see that the cutaway handle is in place ( yellow) but she mocks pulling the D ring as if she were deploying..

its just a Whuffo thing. the micriphone from the live news cast is pretty damn clear for freefall.


as to why these errors happen...do get us to talk about it.

could you explain why the hell this movie would be discussed for any other reason?
