tearseyes 0 #1 April 3, 2006 I am so discouraged right now I just want to crawl in a ball and cry. My goal for this yr is to get more into jumping. I finally got my own rig and i absolutly love it. I been in the sport 2 yrs now and only have 21 jumps. I have put one jump on my rig and already need a repack. I live 3 hrs from the DZ and i really don't mind driving out there b/c the people are great. Lately though everytime i get to the DZ the freaking weather is crap and i don't get to jump. I work every sat so that doesn't give me much jump time so it is very discouraging for me when i get there and the winds are screaming 15-20. Ugh! Everyone is hounding me cause now i have to do a recurrency jump. Which i don't mind doing i just get aggrivated when some of the up jumpers are hounding me to jump in winds i don't feel comfortable jumping in. Anyways i just had to vent that out before i explode. Icon134 0 #2 April 3, 2006 Yeah... that is just something you have to put up with in the spring... iffy weather... You've just got to keep you're chin up and that sooner or later you will actually get to jump. ScottLivin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... tetra316 0 #5 April 3, 2006 Solution: move to the same town as your dz That way you can jump after work as well as weekends and already know what the weather will be before you drive out there. Seriously, that's what I ended up doing. Everything else worked out as well after I decided to move; job, place to live etc.
Laurel 0 #6 April 3, 2006 Jana - hang in there, gwurl. You have been at Gold Coast long enough to know that the weather changes every 5 minutes. There will be so many great days to jump year-round. Once Spring is over, Summer, Fall and some Winter days will bring many Sundays of fantastic jumping with 5-10 mph winds. Plus, you can save your pennies for a day of feverish jumping rather than having to do one jump here and there. Wm and I miss you very much. Any wedding plans now that you are engaged? ..................................................................... tearseyes 0 #8 April 3, 2006 Wow it has been awhile. The engagement is off for the time being. We both just felt we needed to make sure that is what we really wanted since it is such a big commitment. I was looking into doing the canopy coaching at deland soon so i will be more confident under canopy and not so scared to jump. I miss u guys so much. The dz isn't the same without u guys. tearseyes 0 #9 April 3, 2006 yeah dry county....lol...I don't drink that much anyways. It really isn't a money thing it is just a work thing i just wish i could have a normal 8-5 job so i could have weekends off.
ACMESkydiver 0 #10 April 3, 2006 Quotei just get aggrivated when some of the up jumpers are hounding me to jump in winds i don't feel comfortable jumping in. To quote NWFlyer: WTF, over? NOBODY should ever 'hound' you to jump in a situation you aren't ok with. That is complete bullshit. They aren't going to be the ones paying your medical bills or rent when you smash yourself into a pancake and can't work. -And if anyone was even thinking about saying she might be playing it too safe, keep your mouth shut. I don't care if it's 1 mph winds; if it's too much risk for her to accept, it's too damn much. Maybe you were hearing those 'up jumpers' wrong. I sure freaking hope so.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
Laurel 0 #11 April 3, 2006 Well, I am glad you guys are holding off on getting married if you have any doubts. It is much easier to stop dating than get a divorce later on. Plus, both of you are so young that you have plenty of "thinking" time. Also, I think it is a great idea to go to Deland for canopy lessons!! You may also want to see if there is someone at Gold Coast that can put you through a course. As you well know, Gold Coast has some fantastic talent...................................................................... I couldn't agree more. I think there should be appropriate encouragement, but not hounding to do something that Jana or anyone feels may be too dangerous. Jana - do what feels right for you but also listen to people that want you to be safe. When I was new and got frustrated with high winds every weekend, I finally put myself on a load in high winds because I just wanted to jump so badly. Mike Igo took me off the load and basically said, "Honey, I want you to be able to jump again. The winds aren't safe for you today, but they will get better one day." They did. ..................................................................... PMS#28, Pelogrande Rodriguez#1074 My Pink M
tearseyes 0 #13 April 3, 2006 Well when I was leaving today I asked Mike about it. I told him I didn't want to feel like a cop out. And he said that I was making the right choice. I don't mind jumping in windy days i had my two best landings in 10mph winds, but when u weigh only 100lbs and ur jumping a unfamiliar canopy and in a unfamiliar place it does make things a little bit scarier. Jeremy wouldn't let me get on the plane the last couple of times either. The new place is great but it is so much out in the open that there isn't anything to help block the wind like at trent lott so it makes it a little more challenging. Laurel 0 #14 April 3, 2006 It's also the time of year. I'm sure there will always be a little breeze because of the openess of the area, but it will subside as the seasons get more stable. I am very glad to hear Mike is looking out for you. He and Roger were the sole reason I got back into jumping because they were so safety conscious and looked out for people...................................................................... tearseyes 0 #15 April 3, 2006 Yeah I love having people like mike and cozic cause they aren't affraid to say hey u know i think the weather isn't right for u today. I was so anxious to jump i was begging martin to take me up on a tandem. lol....Early on when i was doing aff yeah i was scared and not so eager to jump, but now i want to jump and everyone thinks i am making excuses again....that makes me more frustrated....I think if everyone would back off and let me do things at my own pace i would be more eager to get up and do it. yeah i can't wait til may when the weather finally gets half way normal. Laurel 0 #16 April 3, 2006 Quote...but now i want to jump and everyone thinks i am making excuses again.... Fuck 'em. You don't ever need to do anything that doesn't feel safe to you. That goes for skydiving and everything else, too. Tell them Laurel said, "Back off. Don't make me drive down there and publically open hand slap your bitch ass to the ground like your mama used to do in the Wal-marts." ..................................................................... On several occasions I have driven 2.5-3 hours watching people with 100-500 jumps struggling under somewhat iffy conditions (from a wind standpoint, especially in the springtime) while the people with 5000-10,000+ jumps are sitting on the ground next to me... cause... they know better...
