I just got back from my worst blind date ever

Recommended Posts

This is why you tell them you are dressed one way and show up dressed as another. This way you can watch them when they walk in. You act as if you showed a little late and say you spilled somehting on yourself and had to change, this is also why you would be late.

That bailed me out a couple of times. I could see them when they walked in, first impressions mean alot, and if I didn't like what I saw, then I just left and they just sat there.

Sounds bad I know, but in my experience there was always something hidden I wasn't told about or something lied about. Emailed me old pictures or something. So in a way they deserved it.

Lots of lunatics. on the web just as many women for us guys as there are men for the ladies. I quit doing the blind date thing after a few of those.

SOme of the blind dates I have been on that friends set me up with were much better.

Just set em up for coffee first so you can bail out early in this situation and you're only out a 5 dollar bill.

That's a great idea! Hmmm, makes me wonder if there's an even cheaper way to get to know someone. What could be cheaper than coffee... hmmmm.

Yeah, a 99 cent BigMac at McDonalds would work too, but if, by some stroke of luck, she's actually worth a shit, the bubble gum machine might not impress her.

Blind dates suck. When I was single, my best freind and his girlfreind were always setting me up. They would call and invite me out and casually mention a freind who "was really nice", who would be coming along. I learned from too many experiences that this always equals disaster.

Relationships happen when they happen and there is little you can do to influence fate.

Or... you could stop going out with the type of chick that always expects the man to pay. :P

On a "blind date" situation like that, I'd expect to buy my own coffee. If he offers, that's great, but I'm a big believer in splitting the checks. Once actual dating has begun, I still believe in splitting, or alternating, or letting the person who does the asking do the paying. But then again, I'm kind of modern like that. :D

That's how online dating is man. You just have to pursue lots of potentials to find a good one. Just set em up for coffee first so you can bail out early in this situation and you're only out a 5 dollar bill.;) I know exactly what you're talking about.

If it is going well, I offer to pay. And they protest, I add, "You can get me next time." :)

I've never taken a woman to Starbucks and had her order more than five dollars worth. That doesn't include MY order, because what I spend on me is not a potential waste. She on the other hand might look nothing like her picture, or be so annoying I can't tolerate her even long enough to use her for sex, in which case I've only wasted a 5ver on HER. Money spent on myself is not a WASTE... does that make any better sense?

I didn't do my homework concerning this woman as I really haven't been looking to get into anything serious here.

When I read your first post, this was exactly what I was going to ask you. Personally, I don't know of anyone who has been on a successful blind date. But, I guess Acme has proved me wrong.

Chris

jesus - you have to do homework?????

things are starting to come into focus now and lot of things explained....

A couple of years back, I was using Craigslist personals with interesting results.

I met one lady to go walking with her while she walked her dogs one Sunday.(I love dogs) It went pretty well and we discussed meeting later in the week after we figured out our fluctuating schedules. It took a while and we were to meet the Monday night of a three day weekend. I had planned to be out of town as part of a four day weekend, but changed my plans. She calls me midday on Friday and says that she hadn't actually broken up with her boyfriend (she mentioned she had during our walk). It was now too late to go on my previously planned weekend. I blew her off, duh. What made this so funny was that I get a call from her about a month later. She asked who I was because she didn't recognize my number in her cell phone. She said she didn't remember because maybe she had smoked a bit too much. Her profile said she didn't. I had some fun with her before I let her off the hook.

I responded to another post and as we started talking on the phone, I had reservations if she was my type. I decided to meet anyway to see if my radar was working. It was almost immediately obvious to both of us that it was a bad match. We stuck around long enough to finish our brunch. Not worth wasting a good meal.

I went out with one lady a few times. I then get an email saying she has been going out with another guy during the same time and he is more her type. I say no problem and good luck. About a month later I see she is posting again and I also get an email from her asking if I am still interested. Uh, no.

The funniest was one that said she lived "Outside San Francisco". She lived in St. Louis. I guess that is considered outside SF.

After that, I gave up on Craigslist.

That's exactly what I was thinking... If I met someone over the Internet and we decided to meet for coffee or whatever, I would just assume that I would be paying for my own stuff. I can't recall ever thinking that it was the man's responsibility to pay for anything.

Stale bread + park bench + squirrels/ducks. Free, sappy, chicks dig it. If she sucks, you can always "slip" and fall in a mud puddle, so she can't trick you into going somewhere for a bite to eat.

I prefer to pay, but I get so much grief from men who claim to never have encountered such a thing (maybe they've just never met a woman who pays and puts out - but I can say in all honesty that paying for food/drinks has never been a factor in deciding whether or not I might hop into the sack with someone). I still pay, though. If it's a repeat thing, I have no problem with alternating between who pays, but if it's just once or I have no idea if/when I'll see him again, I pay.

I've had guys get so ridiculous, they'll throw enough cash to cover the bill on the table and refuse to take it back. The waitress just ends up with a massive tip on those nights. I suppose I could be considered just as ridiculous for insisting on paying, but these same guys are going to be expected to pay by plenty of girls. Enjoy it while you can, ya know?
