If you have been jumping a safire then that s a 9-cell and in my opinion a brilliant canopy.

A triathalon is a 7-cell canopy and would make sloer turns ... just for starters.

If you like the canopy you are jumping, the safire then have a look for that or similar canopies are 'Sabre 2', 'Pilot'

I personally suggest if you are not going to buy another safire 2 then purchase the pilot.. There is alot of love for the Sabre 2 but i have only had less enjoyable experiences on it so will not comment there.

If you would like to stay with a 9 cell canopy then the safire two, the pilot, and the sabre two are the three canopies I would suggest you look at.

Of the three I liked the pilot the best, but I am an aerodyne brat so I am biased. I also liked the sabre 2 the least out of the three, I didn't like the openings or toggle feel.

The diablo is high performance 7 cell, not well suited for a first canopy, but there is nothing wrong with a triathalon if you are looking at 7 cell canopies.

Give them all a try if you can. That way you get a free canopy for a while, and you can get your own impression of each. Canopies are a lot like cars, every ones opinions are different, and most people look for different things in a canopy. :)

Going from a Safire to a Tri sounds like a step backwards, to me. I recently went from a Triathlon 160, to a Safire 2 139. I've jumped Sabres a few times, never a Pilot or Diablo. Sounds to me like you're looking for an intermediate, entry level (to elipticals) canopy and I'd hafta' say, it's hard to beat the Safire 2 in that category. If you're already used to a Safire, a Tri would probably feel like a bit of a slug.

thanks for all the help...i do really like the safire -I've been looking at different 7 cells coz I had a recommendation to get one as they are "all rounders" but its interesting to hear how others have found them..

The Triathlon is a fine canopy but I doubt it can be classified as "all around", any more than the Safire 2. I suppose it mostly depends on your style and its primary intended use. They're really two different planforms so it's not a fair comparison. Though I've never tried one, the Fusion is supposedly comparable to the Safire 2, Pilot and Sabre 2.

I fly a Triathlon. Have been for a few years. Great all-around canopy. Not HP and not accuracy but right there in the middle. A great canopy to get you started on your way regardless of which direction you may later want to go.

Put me on the list suggesting the Triathlon at your jump numbers. The Sabre2 would also be a good canopy for you, I think, and will also serve you well.

If you decide on a Tri, I would suggest buying a used one made of the "Gelvenor" ZP material. Soooooo much easier to pack. I was very disappointed when the Gelvenor went away and the newer ones came built of the snot-slick ZP as the others are nowadays.

Good luck.
Listen to those who know you best.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Talk to the experts at your own dropzone. They are the only people that can properly adivise you including canopy selection and wingloading.

Define *properly advise*...

While the advice that is give on here tends to lean towards the conservative side it is a lot better than what many local experts will sometimes advise.

Bad advice is bad advice, it doesn't matter if you got it locally.
