RhondaLea 4 #1 March 27, 2006 So I came back here to find that "my" room was being used as the turtle room. Beck only has one now, because Ben somehow got out of the tank and hid on the floor until he died. So there's a red-eared slider (with a carapace about 6 inches in diameter--about the size of a dessert plate) in a 20-long on my dresser. And in the tank, there's a PVC "grate" that sits at an angle so the turtle can get out of the water and sun under the heat lamp. The cat refuses to drink from her water dish; she drinks from the turtle tank instead. Most of the time, she sits on the end of the dresser, and she and the turtle check each other out through the glass, but right now, the stupid cat is in the tank. She's sitting on the grate, kinda headdown, just watching the turtle. It's no wonder I'm a little strange, because I'm surrounded by strange. It must be something in the water. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Flygurl 0 #3 March 27, 2006 Oh sure. Blame your weirdness on the turtles. They're easy targets. ________________________________________ "One out of every four American's are suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. Girlfalldown 0 #4 March 27, 2006 We give our cats distilled water to drink and they usually won't drink tap water. The weird thing about it is that when I water my orchids, they drink the water that fills the bottom of the orchid pot. That's tap water! Cats are weird. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)

RhondaLea 4 #9 March 28, 2006 QuoteQuoteSo I came back here to find that "my" room was being used as the turtle room. Excuse me? Once upon a time, El Tortuga, I owned about 200 turtles and tortoises from around the world. That's how I met Beck's dad. When we split up, I sent my best tortoises to live with some aficionados in California. (By that time, all I owned were a testudo radiata from Madagascar, which is endangered, as well as some pancakes, stars and two geochelone sulcatas--about 18 turtles in all.) But in the time I had turtles, they always had a room (seperately zoned) and a yard of their own. My daughter's father still has quite the menagerie, and he has done some remarkable breeding in the past few years. So yeah, even one turtle gets a room. That's just the way it is. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
seejanefall 0 #10 March 28, 2006 My husband and I have two turtles in our bedroom, one on each dresser, with the whole set up. It's funny to hear them make mating calls to each other in the springtime. So, other than the cat thing, not so wierd. . . _____________ PMS #
Beckz70018 0 #11 March 28, 2006 I think we have about hmmm...700+ animals ATM...I think some of the eggs are about ready to hatch, baby pancakes, and red feet...It's so cool to have so many different kinds of animals, one of my favorites right now is the bat we have, when I saw him I got to feed him mealworms, and gave him some water, I love their mushed lil faces...then he started flying and did circles around my head...And then there's Homer, African attack goose, he rocks!...He will chase you down, and bite the hell out of you, or beat the crap out of you with his wings he comes up to almost my waist, it's good to have him around when someone pisses me off, I just sic him on them...Then there are his two friends the Embden geese Huey and Louie, they're pretty loud and obnoxious...I think out of all our animals, the only one that's like, a typical, "normal" pet, is our dog...And she still isn't all that normal, she's weird..Oh wait, there's also the guinea pigs, but even with them only one of them is normal, the rest are hairless

RhondaLea 4 #13 March 28, 2006 Well, at that time, I also had 13 cats, 2 dogs, 2 parrots, a black rat snake (wedding present), a Surinam toad, and various numbers (depending on the season) of raccoons, skunks and migratory birds. It was certainly messier than being a cat lady. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
