BillyVance 34 #1 December 23, 2007 I have had pretty much the same gear - rig, jumpsuit, helmet, altimeter etc for 10 years, give or take. I remember what these things cost back then. Finally I decide to go get measured for a new jumpsuit, and when the final tally is added up, my jaw dropped. $349. Damn... My 300 way orange jumpsuit cost me $180 9 years ago if I'm not mistaken. Man, I'd hate to go find out what a new rig will cost me today! The base price was like $250, then add in a few extras like booties and jack ripper knife pocket. They do make very sturdy suits from what I've seen. It should be good for the rest of my life, if I don't fuck up any landings. Thats actually pretty reasonable for a good quality comp suit now-a-days is it not? Not even thinking about what the exchange rate would make a suit from Europe... The price of the rig was 680.00 retail, I noticed the price of the hackey.....30.00 Funny, the rig has trippled since then but the hackey remains the same.... peckerhead 0 #9 December 23, 2007 My first rig cost $350 and that seemed like a lot to me at the time. (I did not even own a car and survived on top-ramen) Strato flyer as a main, 22 sac reserve, no idea what the container was but it was odd looking....R-3 capewells and a belly band. There is no way I would pay $350 for a friggin jumpsuit. My camera suit I got on Ebay for $85 (new windline) My RW suit I also got on Ebay for $8 (Thats right 8 friggin dollars) It came with a jack the ripper hook knife sewn to the leg. My old two zipper style suit I bought new back in the 80's and don't remember what I paid for it. Times have changed for sure.

popsjumper 2 #12 December 24, 2007 Back in the late 70s I could have had an entire set-up for $350 but I couldn't afford that all in one lump. I could afford the $3/day rental fee so I went with that like forever. I have a $350 jumpsuit that I can't fly because I bought it young and stupid before I figured out just what I needed. Hmmmmm...it's been a while and my flying has improved. I think I'll drag it out and test it again. Maybe, just maybe I've gotten smarter that it is by now.My reality and yours are quite different. UDSkyJunkie 0 #17 December 24, 2007 My first RW suit in 2000 was a competition flight suit, cost me about $280. My most recent RW suit in 2006 was a competition Bev suit with exactly the same options as my first, and it cost me $255. (note this was at a discount team rate, would have been closer to $300 otherwise). Meanwhile, if you assume a fairly conservative 3% inflation, my flight suit cost me $334 in 2006 dollars. I really don't see the big issue here. Your 300 way suit was cheap largely because it was a bulk order. very unfair to make that comparison, even moreso if it has fewer options."Some people follow their dreams, others hunt them down and beat them mercilessly into submission." airdvr 210 #18 December 24, 2007 First rig was an SST (before they were Racers)...1.5 Stratocloud and a 26' Lopo....no D-bag...just a diaper...the pull out was velcroed to the container (cause of my first 2 reserve rides) $500 used. I think I ordered the jumpsuit new...hideous thing...2 piece beige and brown (bounce and blend)..wings that would have qualified for flocking today. I think I paid maybe $100 for it. That was 1982 dollars. From there I went to a Flitesuit which I didn't really like, and a Tony that I loved. I gave it to a friend who still jumps it today, albiet with some extra materiel in the knees and ass. Got a new Tony a couple of years back...love it. It was right around $300.Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
