Nightingale 0 #1 March 22, 2006 I've been trying to learn about wine, and I'm curious what people's favorites are, and how much they cost. My favorites so far: Zinfandel Fly By Night (Downing Family Vinyard, 2003) $25 Opolo Mountain Zinfandel (2002) $28 Merlot Witch Creek Reserve, 2001, $28 Port Jeeves' Reserve (Witch Creek Winery) $30 Warrior Port (Warre) $15 Riesling Chateau St.Michelle $8 Chardonnay Witch Creek Winery $15 Muscat Allegro Moscato (Martin Weyrich, 2003) $
AggieDave 6 #2 March 22, 2006 Merlot: Messina Hof $15 Pinot Noir: Messina Hof $15 Chardonnay: Yellow Tail $7 Special Label: Messina Hof "Paulo" $30 I've had more expensive wines, which were good, but Yellow Tail and Messina Hof keep bringing me back. They're just good. The Paulo wine is a blended wine and talk about good, its by far my favorite.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." TomAiello 26 #4 March 22, 2006 Try a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. They're from New Zealand. There are several labels, most of them good, and typically running around $10-15.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

waltappel 1 #11 March 22, 2006 QuoteYou're right... it does not. It did in college when I could afford nothing else... but now that I'm a full fledged addult...it IS NOT WINE! The proper term is FORTIFIED wine! I love that term! I think the Gallo brothers came up with that. "No ordinary wine will do for me. I will have your finest fortified wine! Yes, it is either high octane for me, or nothing at all." Walt

Pinot Grigio Santa Margherita around $29.00 a bottle Opus One Proprietary Red Wine about $150 a bottle (I only spring for one of these if I met my quota in sales)
simplyputsi 0 #14 March 22, 2006 I was lucky one day to have a glass of something called Conundrum. My roommate won it from the restaurant she worked for. They sold it for $135 I believe. I looked for it in a store once and got about the same price. Ummmm no thanks. It was hella good though. It was a mix of whites, cause you know the mixed wines all the thing these days.Skymama's #2 stalker -

Caymus Conundrum is selling for $135 now? That's freakin nutz! I remember when it first came out many years ago and it was around $35 a bottle. Good stuff though. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)
lawrocket 3 #17 March 22, 2006 My favorites are reasonably good wines at good prices. I don't spend than 10 or 12 bucks on a bottle of wine. I mean, I can add DeLoach OFS to the list, as well as Silver Oak and Opus, but why do that? Here are some good ones that are with a good price. Smoking Loon Merlot - usually about $8. Clos du Bois - usually pretty good - $8-12 Meridian (Paso Robles) Sangiovese is great! - $9 I love Decoy 2002 (Cab/Merlot blend) My wife is hotter than your wife. That's gotta be a type-o. Conundrum is my favorite all-purpose white wine and I drink it all the time. I pay $21-$24 per bottle. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" That had to be an accidental "1". Also, it's no longer sold under the Caymus label. It's simply "Conundrum" and it's the only wine made by Conundrum Wines. brierebecca 0 #25 March 22, 2006 I love wine. Favorites right now: Sauvignon Blanc: Brancott Vineyards Reserve (2002, I think). The last time I had it at dinner, I couldn't get my nose out of my glass. When I did, it was basically to tell everyone at the table how much I loved my wine Meritage: Beaulieu (sp) Vineyards "Tapestry" - amazing depth, evey sip is different Pinot Noir - King Estate Reserve, although the La Crema is nice too. Nice nutty overtones and a snappy finish - more black cherry than raspberry Cabernet Sauvignon - Ferrari Carrano's Reserve is very nice Those are the kinds of wine I usually drink. I don't drink a lot of Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, or Shiraz but if I have a choice of those, I'll usually go with labels I know are going to be good - BV, La Crema, etc. I also choose my wines more by region than by producer. If I don't know any of the names on a wine list, I'll choose a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, or Pinot Noir from southern Oregon.
