A good reason not to drink in a Texas bar

Recommended Posts

Quote

You can have a drink in a bar in Texas, but you better not get drunk. If you do, the cops might arrest you. :S

My brother was arrested in the suburb they mention in the first paragraph.

They weren't arresting people trying to get into a car, they were arresting people as they walked out of a local pool hall, even if they had only a few drinks, no where near being publicly intoxicated.

I could understand if they were targeting drunk drivers, but I know of two people arrested that didn't even bring car keys with them, as they were riding with friends that weren't drinking that night.

Personally, I think it's another one of the local PD's revenue-generation schemes....>:(

That's part of that crazy-ass/conservative schizophrenia I see in my old home state. Used to be you could drink a beer while driving, just don't be drunk. Now they're busting you for a few beers in a pool hall. Honky tonking' wild times, but some of the most draconian marijuana laws in the country. I think Texas is a great state, but they could learn a few things from Seattle. B|

It's for publicity purposes...is there an election coming up in the near future, maybe?
That money usually does not go directly to the cops. But it sure seems like they are building their xmas party fund at times.

Crap like that and they wonder why the community doesn't back them more and why some communities just plain hate them.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

Typical B.S for around here, I got a open container ticket on a beach near galveston where you can drive on the beach. The TABC officer let us know we were on a texas highway and could not have open beers in the car. Meanwhile while we sat there and watched 13 year kids drive golf carts down said highway...dirtbikes and quads were being driven by people of all ages on said highway....and get this...if you're legal age you can pull over and drink on the side of said highway in plain view.( think i'll try this one on I-10 this weekend) So like someone else said its just a revenue center for galveston county...the ticket doesn't go on your record...just a quick 167 dollar score for the local government. I'm suprised people don't fight this stuff more but I guess its just easier to pay the fine and thats what they're counting on.>:(

Dont forget mandatory church on Sunday morning.

Well, since they don't sell alcohol in bars until noon on sunday, then might as well go to church.

Wait....seems like if you buy food then maybe you can have a bloody mary with it, but no food no bloody mary.

Something crazy like that. I think it's to keep the peeps in the pews.

Unless they changed the law, it's perfectly legal to have any kind of open liquor container in your car in Texas. For you to violate the law, a peace officer has to see you drinking from the open container.

I don't mean the above as some sort of joke as in, "it's only illegal if you get caught". It is actually written into the law that for you to be in violation, a peace officer has to see you drinking from the container.

The law may have changed in the last couple of years, though.'

Walt, they did change that. Used to even the driver could be drinking, just not drunk. Now, NOBODY in the car can be drinking, and no open containers in the car at all.

Wingnut: Yes, we have cops at the dz, however, they bring beer too.;)

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

I don't drink, but damn, that's just downright rude.
