mcneill79 0 #3 March 22, 2006 My way was to never get in debt in the first place. I know that doesn't help you much now though The only debt I've ever had has always been on 0% credit cards.

simplyputsi 0 #9 March 22, 2006 I was until I started skydiving, and then bought a condo. Now I'm masterfully moving money around on credit cards. 0% can make a whole lot of difference, just remember it isn't forever. before skydiving I just made sure I paid for everything in cash. If I didn't have the money I didn't buy it. Twasn't easy.Skymama's #2 stalker -

monkycndo 0 #12 March 22, 2006 The only debt I had was buying my new truck 15 years ago. Don't own a house so nada there. I spend only what I can fully pay off at the end of each month. I let the credit card company float me a loan until then. I'm pretty frugal by nature, so I have pretty low costs, other than skydiving.50 donations so far. Give it a try. chaoskitty 0 #13 March 22, 2006 But doesnt that hurt your credit, to have too many revolving accounts open? I think I'm going to transfer the balance of one credit card to my ugly one, and dive in to that. Use my amex for business expenses only. Then I'd just have one credit card with a balance, plus my truck loan. Close all dept store cards. And quit being so freakin generous with my friends who dont make as much money. I dont know why I do that.

Taylor610 0 #15 March 22, 2006 I am not, however I am working on it. There are a number of different plans you can use, but the one that my wife and I have based our plan on we got using Crown Financial Ministries. Yeah I know, I am going to get flamed for suggesting a Christian based organization, but hey, they are non profit, you can get pretty much everything you need off of their web site and it works... PhreeZone 20 #17 March 22, 2006 Tell me the secret too. Once you buy a house you are in debt for the next 30 years it seems. Renting was so much cheaper of a livestyle, but I'd never go back to it. I LOVE owning a house more.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
FIREFLYR 0 #18 March 22, 2006 Don't get there in the first place If it's not in my pocket, I don't spend it. PLFXpert 0 #20 March 22, 2006 I was raised on "don't spend it 'til you have it". I learned what this meant in college---knowing I'd have a deposit in the bank on Friday, I'd write a check on Thursday thinking it wouldn't clear until Friday....WRONG! I did this 2 or 3 times before I really learned what "Don't spend it 'til you have it" really meant---it means even if you know for sure, 100%, that money is coming don't spend it until it's in the bank and cleared. Shit happens. B/c shit happens, you have to save for it. Before I paid off my last debt from college (student loan) I made sure I had X amount in the bank liquid for emergencies. When you own a house, emergencies can cost thousands of dollars. If you don't have it, some people go into debt over it. So I'll be prepared. Other than my house (mortgage) I am debt-free.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

monkycndo 0 #22 March 22, 2006 Kitty, be careful which cards you close. Keep the one you have had the longest, even if you never use it. This card helps determine your credit rating. If you close accounts, make sure to have the card companies identify that the accounts were closed by cardmember request. If a lot of cards are closed at the same time without this notation, it can hurt your rating.50 donations so far. Give it a try.
