squirrel 0 #1 March 11, 2006 Anybody catch the discovery show on this guy? Parachuted into the rockies, spent 5 days hiking out, showing survival skills. This is the second "survival show" on discovery. Wonder if this will motivate people to test themselves like this...as in copycat syndrome. I have spent 11 days out in the sierras, with proper gear. And I feel that if I was to be stranded, the western montains would be the easiest to survive...plenty of fire material, streams, food (bugs and grubs), and no real extreme heat, like the desert where I live. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? TrophyHusband 0 #3 March 12, 2006 i'm no survival expert, but this guy is asking for hypothermia and injuries. i missed the first couple of minutes, so i didn't catch why he parachuted in with a backpack but no multitool or even a pocket knife. i would think that if you were to skydive into anyplace no matter how remote, somebody would come looking for you and the best thing would be to stay put. i also wouldn't think you would want to jump off a cliff into a river. maybe someone with some survival training will have seen this and explain the things he did. Sick_Of_It_All 0 #5 March 13, 2006 Quotei missed the first couple of minutes, so i didn't catch why he parachuted in with a backpack That was more for dramatic effect than anything I think, just a way to deliver him. I don't think that was suppose to be an example of how someone would get lost out there. Basically they fly him out to a remote, unknown (to him) location, he jumps out and has to survive while making his way back to civilization. Could have used a helicopter, but that was more interesting to watch. I don't have much survival training, not really sure about some of the things he did. In his defense though he is special forces and supposedly has had extensive survival training.
MagicGuy 0 #6 March 13, 2006 I caught the show and found it really interesting. The coolest thing to me was when he started a fire to heat up rocks, and then buried the rocks under sand to create a warm bed. I thought that was really clever. I wish I had half the survival skill that this guy has. He knows his shit.
