StreetScooby 5 #1 March 7, 2006 I'm looking for ideas here... Does anyone know of a life insurance company that covers skydiving? I've talked to some that want to charge more than my skydiving budget just to insure me. Can you say you're a skydiver and even get an exemption? I've heard that to deny you're a skydiver, you risk losing all payout to your family, even if you're hit by a bus. They'll investigate you before payment, and claim material mis-representation. Once you get an exemption, it goes into some "magic-industry-wide-database". How can this be held against you? Are there viable/reasonable alternatives to cover the mortgage besides life insurance (...I have kids)? etc. Thanks. We are all engines of karma

skydivermom 0 #3 March 7, 2006 I just signed up for a life ins. policy through USPA. My premiums are $23 a month for a $50,000 policy. I"m paying more than normal becuase I skydive, but it's the best deal I've found. It might actually be in the link from the previous post.Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
StreetScooby 5 #4 March 7, 2006 I live in New York State. Nothing comes back through this link (...i.e., I'm denied, and they don't even know my name yet ;) I called that broker's web site, and they were very nice. The company they gave me wants my entire skydiving budget++ just to insure me.We are all engines of karma

Elisha 1 #7 March 7, 2006 If you have a Group Life policy through your employer, max it out - that would be the best deal. Many employers give you a "free" (as in for as long as you are employed with them) 1x your salary or whatever w/ an option to increase that multiplier up to 3x or maybe more. Individuals are NOT underwritten in a Group policy.
AggieDave 6 #8 March 7, 2006 I have a 100K policy through my job that does not exclude skydiving or motorcycles. Yeah for me...well, not really, yeah for my wife.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
ematteo 0 #9 March 7, 2006 Where you live matters. In California, First Colony and Lincoln National both quoted a flat $2.50 surcharge / $1000 for skydiving. This was the best I was able to find. YMMV
mailin 0 #10 March 7, 2006 Typically, you'd want life insurance for 8 to 10 times what your current salary is - I've been quoted $117/month... JenArianna Frances
TALONSKY 0 #11 March 7, 2006 I think the company is only west coast but try GreatWest. I have $150k policy for $25 a month. They only have one exclusion and that is suicide. Kirk

Nikki_Russell 0 #15 March 7, 2006 The state you live in definitely does matter. I work for an insurance company in Georgia and here it's not specifically excluded with most companies unless you tell us when you actually write the policy that you do it...and in that case most companies will exclude it. You are asked during the application process if you skydive, scuba dive, etc, but if you say no, there's nothing we can do about it. We don't know that you're being dishonest...for all we know, you just started skydiving after the policy was written. In that case, the only thing we're going to exclude is suicide. (kinda like someone having a heart condition when they write the policy vs. someone developing it after the policy is written).
