Do you ever not read e-mails or answer the phone . . .

Recommended Posts

Out of fear? And I don't mean fear of a stalker or anything, although I suppose that could just be one of many reasons. Sometimes, though, I don't open e-mails or answer the phone out of fear of what the person might have to say . . . or that I might not be able to think of anything to say (if I have no reason to suspect the person is upset with me).

Is that weird? [:/]

Weird? A little. Uncommon? I doubt it.

I sometime isolate myself, but not out of fear. I just do it out of a need to be alone for a while.

I sometimes freak out if someone contacts me in an out-of-the ordinary (for them) way. For example, about a month after I started at my new job, my boss sent me an IM on a Sunday afternoon saying "Be sure to catch me online tomorrow."

I fretted about the whole rest of the day ... it was just after the first of the year. "He reviewed his budget for this year and has to cut people. I just got hired, of course I'm first fired!' Turned out it he needed to tell me about a reorg and that I'd be reporting to someone else. Big news, but not necessarily bad news. I always assume the worst, though and I may not want to hear from that person, but curiosity always gets the best of me anyway.

Yes... well I sometimes don't answer the phone because I don't want to need to come up with an excuse to not do something...

and on occasion I've been known to leave emails unread for at least short periods of time because I was afraid of what was on the inside...

I only isolate myself from particular people. I also have a mild fear of calling people when I'm sober . . . but again, only particular people.

I also obsessively check my grades online . . . 10 times a day (when I'm waiting for test scores). :D

I'm sure you aren't alone with that.

There have been times when I felt like some one has done that with my emails or phone calls. I have gotten the occasional "I didn't your email" when I didn't get a non deliverable notice.

I have, as far as I can remember, always opened email or listened to a voice mail. I have however not responded because I just didn't feel like dealing with it.

You have a point--there are some people who I will *never* isolate myself from, no matter what.:)

Sometimes I straight up delete the e-mails or voicemails without ever listening to/reading them. Other times I just need a couple of days before dealing with them. *shrug*

I just got an e-mail from my boss in response to a snippy one I sent out, and I don't want to read it. Maybe tomorrow.

I do that too..:| Sometimes I won't listen to my voicemail for days and I have 10 messages waiting for me. It's almost too much to listen to them. I'll just delete them all. Who are all these people calling and what do they want from me????:S LOL

I also have emails that I haven't opened just staring at me.. I won't delete them but I won't read them either.:|

I have a disclaimer on my answering machine:

"Hi, this is Karen, I'm probably not going to check my messages, but you can still leave one if you want."

I don't really like social e-mails or social phone calls that much. I'd rather just talk to someone face to face.. but they have to find me first!:P

I check my grades super-compulsively. It's crazy.

We seem to have much in common.

Kelly you don't have problem calling people when your NOT sober.I can vouch for that. I am always entertained by her phone calls. For example the famous public service announcements.HEHE! That one made me laugh. Congrats on your test score thats wonderful.
