New tat question (Help)

Recommended Posts

So I got this great new tat on my left leg, below the knee, the entire left portion of the leg. Now, almost 2 weeks later I have severe itching and some redness next to a portion of the tat. Could it be related to the shaving of the leg or might there be an allergic reaction?
It is less itchy than it was last night but much MUCH more red. I'd appreciate some help here.
thanks.

Hey,
I don't have any tats but a frat brother of mine got one and it got a little infected and turned red and itched. Because it got infected he had to get it damn near redone, you may want to get it looked at. But lets be honest i don't really know shit, i just kinda felt like sharing.I hope everything is ok.

Sounds like it's a bit infected and healing. From my experience, if it's just a bit pink, that's (relatively) normal--not good, but not horrible. Keep it clean and watch it to make sure it doesn't get any worse. And for god's sake, keep your dirty mitts off of it. :P

Well SHIT! I put the anti-boitic on it as dircted. I wash it twice a day. Now I'm using moisturerizer instead of anti-biotic. I wear jeans everyday so its not exposed to my hands or general stuff.

Actually, the majority of the red ness isn't even on the inked part. Its off to ths side of it.
Mind you this is a large piece taking up the area from my ankle to my knee, from the shin bone to the back of my calf.

i just am a bit concerned when Im on the road and may not be able to seek the care/advice I'd normally get back home.

Thanks!

That's probably a good thing. :)

Yeah, I had the same problem with a tattoo that was covered by jeans when it was healing. Maybe just something irritating it--laundry detergent maybe (if you wash your clothes :P), who knows. Like I said, don't be touching it all the time, and keep it clean. I just use Dial hand soap a couple times a day and some lotion when they start healing. Hope it stops itching for you soon.

As for being on the road, I'm sure that if you've got a serious problem or you're really concerned, you could get in touch with a local tattooer whereever you are. Most people in the profession would be happy to help educate you and you protect your new art. (Keep in mind you might get all sorts of different opinions. That seems to be the case with tattoo care.)

I had that happen with one of my tats that is on my lower back. Just keep it clean, i know i kept mine covered with gauze for a while too. That way it couldn't get more irrated. It doesn't sound like it's that bad. I'm sure it has to do with just the healing process. Just keep an eye on it, and make sure to keep it clean.

Hippie, i am going to go with the irritation of your jeans on the shaven parts of your leg. Ingrown hairs and such suck ass and itch like hell. Give the area a good scrub (obviously not on the inked part people!) and let it stay dry and see what happens. Obviously if it gets worse, go see someone.

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

Hippie! Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the tat. [:/] I must say, it's pretty sweet.

I have no advice, just wanted to say we're missing you in Atlanta. Although Hottielicious has been partying hard to make up for you in your absence..:P

Hey Hippie,
Try soaking your leg in some kerosene and then scrub it down good with some 100 grit sand paper. After that put some Old Spice After Shave on it and wrap it in some burlap.

Oh, I forget. Make sure you drink about a 5th of Jack and smoke some crack before you do it. :P:S

Hope it heals fast. Several of mine about drove me crazy itching!:(

Thanks all for the advice.
Its not itching near as bad. There is still a good bit of redness in a portion of the tat and to the side of the tat. I THINK it looks better today. There arent any red lines (is that staph or just an general infection?)
gotta go wash with AB soap.;)

I'll tell ya, this time of year with the dry air, using too much soap on it and washing it too much cab also prolong the itching and make it take longer to heal. I really think you are better off just using water and no soap, and then a very mild lotion.
