waltappel 1 #52 February 24, 2006 QuoteQuote"Shutup--*I'm* talking!!! I've known quite a few Filipino women in connection with working for various law firms. My experience is that one does not fuck with them lightly, because although the sounds emanating from their general vicinity are musical and although they can be quite warm and friendly... ...they are quite astute and they take no shit. A man who takes a Filipino bride thinking she's going to kowtow needs to think twice. rl Honestly, I have never understood the mentality of men who want a kind of servant instead of a partner. I know they exist but I simply do not understand their thinking at all. To me it's completely over the top and that's why I laugh at it. The one Filipina woman I have been around is brilliant. I have no idea how she compares to othe Filipia women, but I think she is absolutely wonderful to be around. Walt

My ex's ex is Filipino, and she's scary. Walt- Throughout my life, I have had various close female friends who are Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Korean, etc. I know none, who are as you described. They are all incredibly intelligent and strong women. That old stereotype about "Asian" women being subservient is not true, not among the new generations. It's completely untrue of the Asian ladies, whom I've been close friends with in my lifetime. Chris~ When I looked at these girls on this thread, I wondered for a moment if my twin nieces, who are to be born this summer, will look similar. They will be half Peruvian (on my brother's side) and half Taiwanese (on his wife's side). Also, my brother's wife is 5'8", so they might be tall. The best part is that my brother and his wife are very down-to-earth, caring souls, although they are quite successful, intelligent people. (Both have genius-level IQs.) Those girls are going to have a very nice life with such loving parents, and an Aunt Ro who will love them, as if they were her own. They are all incredibly intelligent and strong women. That old stereotype about "Asian" women being subservient is not true, not among the new generations. It's completely untrue of the Asian ladies, whom I've been close friends with in my lifetime. In college I actually did know a guy who was married to a traditional Asian woman and it was a trip. Whenever I called him at home and she answered the phone I struck by how little English she knew. I asked him about that one time and he told me he kept her somewhat isolated and did *not* want her becoming Americanized. As he put it, "If I wanted an Americanized Asian woman, I would have just married an American." As I recall, she had been in the US about 10 years and barely knew enough English to answer the phone. They had very defined gender roles in his household from what he told me. He was the provider and she did everything around the house and took care of all of his wants and needs. This guy was not mean, domineering or a jerk at all, at least in my dealings with him and I was around him a lot. It just seemed a *very* strange kind of partnership that worked somehow. I have no doubt that those women are bordering on extinction and I have no problem with that but that stereotype, while it may be little more than a myth these days, at one time certainly had some validity to it.
