Oh, how true your tag line is! :P

Reckon you'll find most of us are simply addicted to adrenaline. Finding an outlet using sport must be one of, if not the, most poular way to get your 'fix'.

Also, if you ask what other sports people who skydive actively participate in, youre bound to see things like skiing, flying, motor biking etc etc

the reason i started skydiving was because i have a little penis and i was always ashamed of it .... i thought that if started skydiving girls would like me more ... i continued because i like to be cool... because when i tell people i skydive they are like "wow, you must have big balls!" only i know the truth, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside .... like a litte teddy bear holding a dozen dethorned roses....

That's actually a really good question and I hope you get some good answers to it. Here's mine.

When I was around 10 years old I went to an airshow with my parents and while I thought all the planes were cool, what really got my attention was watching some guys jump into the airshow. Holy shit!

It was kind of like going to a really badass concert and seeing your musical hero in action and thinking, "I want to be him (or her)!!!". I didn't just want to do what they were doing, I wanted to be what they were being at that moment--I wanted to be a skydiver!! Hell yeah!!! It wasn't just wanting for everyone to think I was cool, though that was part of it. I just wanted that kind of existence; to do and be something extraordinary.

I never forgot that.

Every now and then I think back on that moment when I was that kid. I think he would be ok with being me.

I voted "clueless" since it's obvious I'm clueless when it comes to satisfying regular women who ... well appear to just want babies, families, the house in the burbs, two cars in the garage ... you know all that stability crap that a skydiver obviously lacks since we're labeled as crazy adrenaline junkies and all going to die on our next jump.

I skydive because I enjoy playing in the skies. I was a private pilot before I skydived and believe it or not, skydiving is cheaper than flying airplanes (plus I really enjoy flying my canopy). So I don't skydive primarily because of the adrenaline. That's just a by-product of the jumps. I skydive because I enjoy playing in the skies. But regular women will never understand or accept this. They want their men to be domesticated.

That's why you just tag and release.

I do it because I grew up in it. My mom was a private pilot and later my Dad's student in the early 70's. Dad's had his own club at NC state college and used the Thackers and the Fayards DZs I grew up on those Drop zones. He owned several military surplus rigs and rigged them all. I still remember what carolina sky sports looked like before it burned and they had to rebuild it.

I didn't get intothe sport until about 5 years ago beacuse of Marines, family ect. but lets just say i was born to do it. and I contoinue because of the friends, adrenaline, and just playing in the sky.

I didn't get started until

I used to think it was for a lot of differen't reasons. Since taking my current job I have realized it is purely for the adrenaline. Sure........I have made LOTS of good friends but since taking this job I only get to skydive one month out of every 4. It's funny......I get enough adrenaline on this job to KILL the average man. So.........I don't really miss skydiving that much. Yeah.......I hang out at the DZ the whole month I am on vacation but I just don't miss it like I did before.

Why do I skydive.... hmmm... I always just kind of looked at it and said, "That looks like fun!!!"

One evening at a party the topic of skydiving came up and I said something like... "I've always wanted to do that..."

A friend responded saying "If you want to, You Should..."

A week and a half later I did AFF L1 and I never went back....

I suppose ultimately the reason I do it is because "I can." do I need another reason?

i couldn't tell ya why... the rush after a good jump is great but then again its a bigger rush when the jump goes horibly wrong..:o guess it would be that is is just something about falling for 2 miles and then using a piece of nylon cloth to save you from hittting the ground at 120+ mph...

I really don't find all that much adrenaline in skydiving. For the most part, it relaxes me. There certainly *are* exceptions, though. Pro demo jumps are a real rush. CRW looks like it can be a great rush--especially when things go wrong. I'm sure big way RW is a rush. For the most part, though, I think skydiving is just fun.

Standing on the ledge of a building getting ready to jump, though, is one hell of a rush. A bit too much for my taste.

I made my first jump when I was about six. Climbed up the fence in the corner by the garage, got up on the garage and held a shopping bag over my head and jumped, certain that the bag would break my fall. Man, that hurt.

Second time I tried a pillow case, that didn't work either.

Took a few years off, made a static line jump with a T-10. Better, made 7 more static line jumps.

Took 30 years off and finally found a combination that I liked.

Now I jump because I can. Looking forward to learning more and living some of those things I've dreamed about.

Should one of the choices be "self actualization"?

I'm not an adrenaline junkie. I'm just boredom intolerant. Honest, I could quit anytime I wanted to . . .really. :$

A lot of good answers here by people writing in. Did I detect a negative bias in the poll? Most of the categories were not too flattering. How about "Married, responsible guy who likes to skydive with his wife."? I know, pretty boring, but so am I.

Most the jumpers I know, men and women, are some of the finest people I've ever met. We just act stupid sometimes, that's all.B|

I started so I could get my Dutch Military Wings. After the first jump I was addicted. And now I use it as an outlet to vent the BS the military fills me with.

Oh, and the hot ladies up in Texel.....

I got into it as a means of relieving job related stress. I can't think of work if I'm busy having fun... B|

Very similar for me. It helps you put your life in perspective. Now when people come up to me at work with an "emergency," I think, "An emergency is going through 1500 feet with nothing over my head, this is just a problem." :)
