EBAY scam or not????

Recommended Posts

Ok here is the deal. I posted an item on ebay yesterday. The item is only at a penny so far and is not worth more than a fwe dollars (at least most ppl would think so)

Today I get an email from a potential buyer:

"i saw this your item interested in ebay and i am interested in buying it for my son which in africa right now on tourism.I will pay $450 and i will like you to ship it directly to him from you,I will give you $100 as its shipping cost and i will pay you via MoneyGram,so if you agree, send me yor name and address so that i can make the payment as soon as possible."

What do you guys think? What should I do?

You're kidding right?

Let's think about this... in Africa... willing to pay more than its worth...

Are you interested in land in Florida too? Maybe a bridge in New York! :)

Ignore it! it is a scam. It is an email designed to get your personal information then exploit it.

besides jumping my main hobby is car audio and i'm on a few audio forms, and have heard of people selling audio gear get hit with this scam before. basically the guy sends you shipping money promising to get you the rest after it's shipped. then once it's shipped he disappears. usually they end up reselling the item you sent them for more than they gave you to ship it. just tell the guy you aren't interested. cheers

may not be the same, but here is what it sounds like to me....

Thinking of selling a car or another valuable item through an online auction or your newspaper’s classified section? If so, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, wants you to know about check overpayment scams.

According to FTC officials, the scams work like this: Someone responds to your posting or ad, and offers to use a cashier’s check, personal check or corporate check to pay for the item you’re selling. At the last minute, the so-called buyer (or the buyer’s “agent”) comes up with a reason for writing the check for more than the purchase price, and asks you to wire back the difference after you deposit the check. You deposit the check and wire the funds back to the “buyers.” Later, the check bounces, leaving you liable for the entire amount.

The checks are counterfeit, says the FTC, but good enough to fool unsuspecting bank tellers.
