ljwobker 2 #1 February 5, 2008 anyone know how difficult it would be to convert an older triathlon to the new "mod 4.0" trim settings? I know that the new settings involve moving a connection point, and that some of the lines are different lengths than the old ones, but what I don't know is if I've got an original lineset that is in good condition, can I simply move the attachments that need to be moved and re-cut the one steering line that's a different length and attach it... or is the whole thing more complicated than that and I should just shut up and get a new lineset entirely? ;-)
popsjumper 2 #2 February 5, 2008 I don't see "rigger" in your profile. Removing the existing lines would involve removing bar tacks and re-tacking at the very least. Best done by a rigger with the proper tools. Me? I'd wear out the existing line set first and then replace it with a new one to install the 4.0 Mod.My reality and yours are quite different. ljwobker 2 #3 February 5, 2008 /grins/ -- "rigger" is most definitely NOT in my skill set, the question was in the context of "is this something my local rigger can do without my dropping $200 on a new line set?" The lines on the canopy are in pretty good shape already, so I was trying to figure out if the old line set could be sufficiently modified or if a new one was required. peckerhead 0 #4 February 5, 2008 I have not done one myself but I have seen it done twice by a friend who is a master rigger. All he did was remove the outside line and install a new one towards the center cell on each side. No need to replace the entire line set if they are still in good shape. It only takes a few minutes and well worth it in my opinion. I have jumped a Tri before and after the mod and the improvement was significant.

phoenixlpr 0 #6 February 6, 2008 Can I see on the canopy's data card which line-set does it have? After what date of production can I expect the new line-set? thanks!
popsjumper 2 #7 February 6, 2008 QuoteCan I see on the canopy's data card which line-set does it have? No but it's easy to look at and tell...look at the four attachment points for the steering lines...if there's a connection point on the corner that's the original lines configuration. If there's no connection on the very corner, it's the 4.0 Mod. QuoteAfter what date of production can I expect the new line-set? thanks! PM Kaerodyne - Aerodyne rep who posts on DZ.com often. Note to all doing re-lines on your Tri. Aerodyne's new line sets are cut for the 4.0 mod. Installing 4.0 mod line set in the "original" line configuration on your canopy will do disastrous things to your landings. You will NOT be happy. Only install "original" line lengths in the "original" configuration. Only install 4.0 mod line lengths in the 4.0 Mod configuration. There's a funny story behind that but I won't go into it here. I already posted that stuff in another thread about 4.0 Mod line sets.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. I have the 4.0 mod lineset on my 10 year old Triathlon. They removed the outer-most lines to the tail corners in the new line-set. I don't think it's smart to make your own mods if you're not a rigger. Edited to add: I see others already have more complete advice than this post. Nothing wrong with sticking to the current line-set until they start to wear out. How many jumps have been made on that line-set? They typically last 400-600 jumps. I had mine replaced around 500 jumps."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
