tungsten wedding bands...

Recommended Posts

Doesn't Andyman have one? I could have sworn...

One thing you can try is a jeweler's polishing cloth. It's a very fine abrasive (2000+ grit).

My titanium band is doing the same thing a bit. If I buff it with a cloth, it seems to come right back.

Just a couple of ideas.:)

Oh, one other thing...if the binder in your ring is cobalt rather than nickel, that may be your problem.

Cobalt will react with your body chemisty and leech out, giving you an oxidation like tarnished siver, which can't be polished or ground out.

I don't know what the binder is...could be cobalt. I thought cobalt wasn't too healthy for the body. I still love my ring...just wish it was as shiny as when it was new. Also barely any scratches on the thing. and I beat it up pretty badly at work.

Ah. they seem to be fairly popular here. Sounds like you ended up with the cobalt binding instead of nickel binding. You may want to replace it, as there isn't really a way to remove cobalt tarnish.

sure there is. The cobalt is just oxidizing. Whip it into a reducing environment at a few hundred degrees C for about an hour - viola.

Well after some more research looks like we got a cobalt bonded tungsten ring....that kinda sucks. Wish I had done a little bit more research prior to us getting this one. I still love it...too bad it can't be polished out.

How bad can it be, if it doesn't open like a Sabre and you don't hook it in?

Oh, you don't mean the canopy.

It opens worse! The cobalt is the definition of a two-stage opening. B|

don't lose hope. Let me do some tests in the lab - I'm almost positive its an easy straight forward thing to reverse.

If you have a metal allergy (like I do) you'd want to avoid nickel in your jewelry. It gives you a loverly rash.
