AggieDave 6 #2 January 31, 2006 Well, what would Seattle do if we started calling ourselves the sea hawks? Why they choose now to go after them I have no idea, or possibly they started the process of protecting their trademark (yes it is trademarked) a long while back and now its just making the news. A&M has had the 12th Man since 1922.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

A&M has had the 12th Man since 1922. The Seahawks retired #12 in 1984. 22 years later we have a lawsuit, the week before the Super Bowl? And the Seahawks aren't calling themselves the Aggies, they're just recognizing their fans. I wonder who has trademarked the letter D next to a white picket fence that we see in stands at every football game. I just think the whole thing smacks of whining. Hell if I know, I don't cheer for Seattle and have other things more important in my life then keeping up with the day to day of the college I went to school at. You can understand from a strictly trademark useage standpoint, though, right? Even if their timing blows.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." SeaKev 0 #5 January 31, 2006 Let the lawyers and the self-serving administrators get their rocks off. The flag will still be raised before the game and the number 12 jerseys will still be around. The Hawks and the NFL will have to do w/o the profit from "the 12th man".
livendive 8 #6 January 31, 2006 Quote You can understand from a strictly trademark useage standpoint, though, right? Even if their timing blows. Not really. It's kinda like someone trademarking the word "freefly". Plus, the Seahawks don't sell "12th man" jerseys or anything, they sell jerseys with the number 12 of on them. So they're not calling their fans "the twelth man", they're calling them "player number 12". Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" tricky 0 #7 January 31, 2006 While I'm not an Aggie... that article does not begin (I'll give him credit for a few kind words in the middle) or end with any general respect to Texas A&M University. In fact, I opened the link, read about 3 paragraphs and already felt I was wasting my time. I proceeded to read the entire article... at a later time. While truth lies in that article, I would not call it a 'decent read' or anything worth supporting. And in many aspects, it's flat out rude. If it's a trademark/legal dispute... let those types handle the situation. The guy that wrote that article is most likely NOT a lawyer and probably just looking to get a laugh from some and piss off others. It sounds like something a Texas Tech fan would write about the Aggies. The Raiders hate the Aggies... and are very disrespectful to the Aggies on their own turf. But.. like AggieDave said, I have more important things to do with my life then keep up with articles and events like this. I'm sad that that article converted you into a Texas fan. I like both schools, but Texas A&M is clearly a 5 Star school I would send my kids there anyday, regardless of how the football team plays.

livendive 8 #12 February 1, 2006 Hey dickface, long time no see! I stopped by the bar Sunday and the bartender told me you'd been in and had asked her to tell me something, but she couldn't remember what it was. I figured you'd probably asked her to tell me about the crush you have on me and I told her to let you down easy. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Lindercles 0 #15 February 1, 2006 The part that I especially don't get about the timing is that in recent years the Aggies have successfully lobbied two other NFL teams to quit using it, so why wait until now to pester the Seahawks? It really looks bad.

AggieDave 6 #17 February 1, 2006 Did some reading, A&M contacted the SeaHawks back in 2004 about their use of the 12th man, its just making the news now due to their soon to be superbowl appearance. For what its worth. Even though the actual tradition started in 1922 with E. King Gill, I don't know why the sports department didn't trademark it until 1990. Hell if I know, I just hope that the administration takes steps to perserve the clean and healthy image of A&M. But hell, I'd understand if it was another college team doing it, but the NFL and NCAA are two totally different things. The Aggies need to let it go. It reeks of sour grapes and will only make themselves the butt of jokes this fall. Oh well, as if having Dennis Franchione wasn't already bad enough. Lindercles 0 #21 February 3, 2006 Seattle just filed a notice to have the case moved from the State court in Bryan to a Federal court in Houston, since it's a federal trademark case. A court date has been set for June. So that's all we should hear about it until well after the Superbowl.
