ddircksen 0 #1 January 30, 2006 I recently read a Bill Bryson book (Made in America) where he mentions women being chastized in the early part of the 20th century for using this phrase: "What a cunning hat". I've Googled it, Wikipedia'd it, no result. Anyone have any idea why this would have been a bad phrase to use? I might just be exceedingly daft, and it might be horribly vulgar, if so, my apologies
 cocheese 0 #2 January 30, 2006 It's slang for cunning linguist. Men back then thought is was a task/pleasure that should only be done by men to women. Thus the mere mention of it by a woman would cause great arousal in men who would (wood) then get arrested for walking around with an erection.
