Darius11 12 #1 January 23, 2006 Hey can someone tell me what they mean by ripping a CD. I can't transfer files MP3 from a CD to the hard drive. When I did a search this is what I found "Xbox 360 DRM makes your rip your CDs again Microsoft's new Xbox 360 has a dumbass DRM countermeasure: it won't let you store MP3s on its hard-drive unless you rip your CDs again using your Xbox. My CDs are in a storage locker on a different continent -- there goes the whole Xbox-as-Media-Center thing. Thanks, Microsoft, for putting paranoid record execs' phobias ahead of your customers' legit needs. Get used to ripping tracks from audio CDs because that's the only way we could get music onto the 360's HDD. The console could recognize and play MP3 songs from USB devices like memory sticks and portable media players, but we couldn't transfer songs over to the HDD. Similarly, the system could play songs from a data CD that contained MP3s, but we couldn't transfer the music directly to the system's HDD. The 360 can stream music from USB devices and data CDs, but it won't let you copy any songs from those sources. " What the heack do they mean. Is there a way around it? labrys 0 #2 January 23, 2006 Sounds like they're saying that if you've ripped (read "copied") songs from audio to data CDs. you can't then rip (copy) them from the data CD to the XBox hard drive. You have to copy them from the audio CD directly to the XBox hard drive. I have no idea if there's a way around it. I'd bet not .Owned by Remi #? Darius11 12 #3 January 23, 2006 So i can copy wav files and the Xbox willmake them in to mp3? If it saves them as wav it will only take 10 cd albums to fill the hard driveI'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
labrys 0 #4 January 23, 2006 I don't think so. I got the impression that you can only copy from audio CD to the HDD. You might be able to create audio CDs using the mp3 and wav files on your computer and then transfer them to the Xbox... I'm not sure.Owned by Remi #? labrys 0 #5 January 23, 2006 Can you transfer files directly over a network to the thing? I don't have one so I'm not sure.Owned by Remi #?
Darius11 12 #6 January 23, 2006 You can transfer files from anything or so it says (havent tried yet) as long as the device has a USP port. it has 12 gigs of spaceI'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
labrys 0 #7 January 23, 2006 The info you posted suggests that you can only stream music from USB, not transfer it. Maybe an XBox XPert will see this and give a better answerOwned by Remi #?
