I always wondered what a condo was, thanks for that:)
Ok what's the price of a 1 or 2 bed condo in your area?

Depends on where you go. We've got riverfront condos with a yacht club just out the back door and a golf course across the street out front that run from $300,000-$500,000, and I know of very nice, new-ish condos without those luxuries that run around $200,000. I don't know of any 1 bedrooms, and 2 bedroom units aren't all that common. Property is cheap enough where I live that most people just build/buy houses. A couple years ago the gal I was with and I built a new house on a quarter acre lot for $168,000... 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, 2200 finished square feet. Why would we want to share walls/ceilings/floors with others when we can have that much more privacy for less?

Blues,
Dave

Oh to live somewhere with sanity in the property market [:/]

Hi Newbie

Sanity[:/]

Think "location, location, location".

The area that Dave is located in is a desert and was home to a major nuke weapons production facility ( Google: Hanford Nucleur reservation). The good news is that if your employed in the hazardous waste cleanup industry, there will be plenty of well paid jobs for a very long time. Dave's childrens, children will have a bright future if they stay in the area.

FWIW if I was employed in the same industry as Dave the tri cities area of Washington state would be a great place to live.

R.I.P.

Hmmm, total cost? You're looking at about $75,000. To rent you're looking at between $500-750. That typically includes some sort of paid bills in your rent. Be it high speed internet, utilities or cable TV.

$175,000

two bedroom/one bath "condo" that has an attached one-car garage, outside entrance, shared side walls and finished partial basement. About 35 miles from Chicago in a nine year old development. Nice area, close to anything/everything you need and still growing.

In McHenry, Illinois -
Condos - anywhere from $89,000 (real cheap, crappy place-) up to about $175,000 for something pretty nice - average about $150,000

Apartments (renting) - Figure $650 - $950 a month.

We purchased our home in '00 for $137,000 - We're putting on the market here soon for $220,000 Three bedroom, two baths, two car garage, 80x120 lot, lots of upgrades.

Keely, what does a stand-alone house go for in Murrieta? 3BR, ~1700 - 2000 sq ft

They start at ~$380K, up to a few million... But there are quite a few decent houses in the $400-$500K range.

Edited to say: But if you're looking to be close to the Perris DZ, Menifee and Sun City are ok areas that are closer, and real estate might be a tiny bit cheaper (maybe).

Here in Austin, Texas it is about $125-140K to buy a condo, about $700-900 to rent an apartment.

I'll add that to my very long list of reasons why not to live in austin.;):P

Ok, seriously, it won't be too much longer before the B/CS area prices catch up to what they really should be. Right now the HUGE future for serious money in this area is property.

Ok you're not going to believe the later part, but where I live a 2 br condo starts at least 250k in a crappy area and in a upscal area it can run up to 800k USD not to mention monthly maintance fees. Most of them only have 1 or 2 parking spots.

What kind of apartment are you living in????

I live in Central Austin and I pay $495/mo. for a one bedroom, which includes cable and all bills except electricity.

And really, the drive bys are rarely pointed in my direction.

Last time I checked, a decent one bedroom (~800 sq ft) in Manhattan will set you back $750,000. A parking space is ~$400/month. But I haven't checked recently since I was priced out of the market a looong time ago.

You never specified decent. I was thinking about obscene.
