What did/do you want to be when you grew/grow up?

Recommended Posts

I haven't decided yet... but I'm an engineer/scientist right now...

Actually, since I started College I wanted to grow up to be a student... (the only problem I had with that was the pay, or lack there of...)

I like learning stuff... B|

You think passengers would have a problem if I wore my chute on the flight?:D:S
The other thing that bothers me is that I would save my ass first, I would be the first idiot to run/hop/skip and or jump over seats to get my ass to the inflatable slide first!!!:D:S Any kind of turbulance and that beverage cart becomes my bestest friend!!:D:D

Might raise an eye-brow or two but, latchin' on to that beverage cart and emptying the contacts would definately draw some looks.

- Height of less than 6 feet with shoes

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If you are 6' tall and wear any kind of heels, the only place you will be able to stand upright in a Canadair RJ will be at the emergency exit hatch near the front door.
Imagine not being able to stand upright for a couple hours straight. The only saving grace is that CRJs don't carry much fuel.
I pitied the flight attendant on my last CRJ flight: pretty girl, but too tall for her job.

Back in the 1960s, I told my Mom that I wanted to be a: sailor, firefighter, parachutist, airline pilot, aeronautical engineer.

Spent a couple years at sea aboard HMCS Athabascan and HMCS Iroquois.
Attended the Canadian Navy's firefighting school.
Made about 5,000 jumps out of military and civilian aircraft.
The written exam is the last major obstacle between me and a commercial pilot license. Even studied for a couple of hours yesterday.
Have read more books on aircraft design than you can shake a stick at. Can talk your ear off about aircraft design, just can't put it into numbers.

I grew wanting to do pretty much what I'm doing now, pulling wrenches, welding, fixing and building stuff, working with my hands and my head. And hanging from parachutes. I had a big fascination with parachutes and kites when I was a kid. So, I guess grew up to be exactly what I wanted!

Damn, I'm lucky!

I always wanted to be an engineer and ended up in software. This makes me a fourth generation professional nerd: ny father is a chemical engineer, my grandfather was an electrical engineer, and my great grandfather was a a geophysicist.

I'm kinda the black sheep in my nerdy family. :D Dad was a chemical engineer, graduated top 5 from Vanderbilt U. His dad was a water systems engineer. My brother is a software/hardware engineer.

I'm a lowly drafter but was making a nice $39K salary until I got canned. Now I'm just content to be a house-husband and stay-at-home-dad-to-be. :P
