RhondaLea 4 #52 December 13, 2005 Quoteother than Stranger, I thought his other books were pitched at a very young market. I've read about 8 of his and they all seem very simplistic, Except Stanger in a Strange land, I read the others on the strength of that and wasn't all that impressed by the rest. Many of his books were juveniles, but if you found them simplistic, you weren't paying attention. Did you ever read any of his short fiction? His essays? I ran into Heinlein when I was around 15, and he had a profound influence on my thinking--mostly because what I learned from him was how important it is to think, to try out new ideas. And the one thing all of his characters have in common is that they never, ever give up. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. McDuck 0 #53 December 13, 2005 I've only read Stranger, but I was thoroughly entranced with it. I read it about once every other year or so. I found that it didn't so much solidify my thoughts on any subjects covered (religion, interpersonal relationships, prejudice) as much as make them more fluid and adaptable.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. Guest #54 December 13, 2005 QuoteA lot of you guys aren't talking about women in science fiction (fantasy, most of it), but about the actresses who portrayed them. rl I guess it should have been more specific and referred to a particular entertainment medium. In this case, I think the intent was cinema / television, or at least that's the way I saw it. Heinlein's "Friday" was a great character, tho. mh . I've read about 8 of his and they all seem very simplistic, Heinlein did write alot of Juvenile Fiction and some books that can really only best be described as Pulp. I am Not sure which 8 other Books you read but I would Highly suggest that you try: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress Time enough for Love To Sail Beyond the sunset The Cat who walks through Walls I will fear no Evil Expanded Universe

JohnRich 4 #68 December 13, 2005 QuoteOh, and can't leave out Charlize in Aeon Flux. Heck no! I didn't understand some of the things going on in that movie, but it was quite satisfying enough for me to sit and watch Charlize prance around in tight black spandex for an hour and a half. Shotgun 1 #69 December 13, 2005 I liked Rachael in "Blade Runner," or Sarah Connor in the Terminator movies. (Does that count as sci-fi? I don't watch/read a lot of sci-fi stuff.)

I haven't read them, I'm not as into Fantasy as Sci-Fi. I know, kinda weird. I was never really that big on Pern. I was talking about the Tower & Hive series, which is related in a way to the stories about the Talents. All of the women related to the Rowan are hot, btw. And yes, I do remember Sassinak, vaguely. I don't ever recall reading anything of McCaffrey's more than once, and it has been awhile since I've read anything at all. Acorna drove me crazy (not in a good way), and I haven't been back. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Guest #75 December 28, 2005 Gina Torres is a real beauty (and Laurence Fishburne is a lucky guy)! Morena Baccarin is an exotic beauty, to be sure, but... Tricia Helfer is in a class by herself - it's truly scary how gorgeous she is. I also think it's cool how her appearance is played against her persona in BSG, and it makes her even more intimidating. But I agree with billvon and the others. Jewel Staite has a "girl next door" appeal that is charming. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
