SpeedRacer 1 #1 December 14, 2005 OK I got this email that is fake saying a new email address has been added to my PayPAl account, and if I disagree, I should click here. so the link leads to this website: http://www.editalpaineis.com.br/~windows/info.html which immediately switches you to this URL: http://221.133.206.211:811/vtf/primapagina.htm anyway to stop this or find out who's doing it? This is like the sixth email of this type that I've received over the last 6 weeks. and what country is "br"?? maybe Brazil?? RhondaLea 4 #2 December 14, 2005 Paypal rarely sends mail. I did get one the other day that was Christmas advertising with links to PayPal partners. But that's been about the extent of the real mail. So delete all of it unopened. If you think it might be real, delete it anyway and log into your account as you normally would. If there are no notifications waiting for you, it was indeed just another scam. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. No Find out who's doing it? Yes, but it won't really do you any good. Solution? See that key on your keyboard called "Delete" ? Press it and move on. Welcome to the Internet! Butthead: Whoa! ChrisL 2 #4 December 14, 2005 Paypal and Ebay have pages where you can report fraudulent e-mails like this. They get the sites shut down pretty fast too. I've gotten many of those in the last few year and I just report them to the folks the messages are pretending to be. skymama 37 #6 December 14, 2005 I read that the real Paypal will include your complete registration name when they send e-mails to you. I've received the fake ones that you are describing and they never included my name, just something like "dear paypal subscriber". This week I got a real one that included my name and they knew my credit card had expired. I guess that's a good way to tell if it is real or not.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

nathaniel 0 #10 December 15, 2005 Unfortunately this is a real problem. It's just not safe to trust any link to a website that comes in your email since just about everything that comes in your inbox can be spoofed, in many cases including your full name, your account number and other things you don't consider to be easy to guess or track down. It gets worse because a lot of companies don't realize this and have started going about emailing links to their websites that people might actually want or need to click on. And many times they even contract out to marketing and customer relations companies that have no ostensible relationship to the website in question...making it all horribly, horribly impossible for ordinary folk. Bottom line is don't trust any link in any email. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski? bob.dino 1 #11 December 15, 2005 QuoteBottom line is don't trust any link in any email. Yup. Never click on a link in your email. Open a new tab/window and type out the name of your destination site.
FlyinNover 0 #12 December 31, 2005 Quoteb]Never click on a link in your email. Open a new tab/window and type out the name of your destination site. Ebay and Paypal will NEVER provide a link in an email. They will always give you instructions like "Type www.ebay.com into your browser. Then click on 'My Ebay'. . ." etc. I tell people to always mouse-over the link first before you click on it. If you don't recognize the site it's sending you to or it looks suspicious, don't click on it.
