Sounds typical of the sport, and training today... Everyone thinks this sport is safe... I can't count the number of times I have heard people say "I wouldn't be doing it if I thought it was in any way dangerous."

Wake up folks. Skydiving is dangerous. Even if you do everything right you can still be injured or even killed. Now add a stupid instructor into the mix who's only thoughts are of getting laid and you have a recipe for disaster.

The instructor should have his license taken away by USPA forever... The girl should have her baby and live happily ever after on welfare and never walk on to a DZ again. The DZO should think twice about who they allow to instruct at their DZ and I should have my head examined for offering my 2 cents worth on this board.

I'd like to hear from the rigger who packed the reserve...

This is why I changed my feelings towards this. Her $450,000.00 is a far cry from the $60,000.00 I bankrupt. Once I realized exactly how I felt with mounting bills and no possiable way to pay it put me in Shaynas place. This poor girl is pregnant and in need of assistance (they know how that pregnancy thing happens now. Please don't make it sound like it's cancer or something) and all we have done is berate her. I for one am ashamed that I let my passion for the sport over ride my compassion for another human in need. (I am very compassionate to someone in need. You said it yourself...bankruptcy...happens all the time) I hope that they can forgive me for not seeing the whole picture. If you have the ability to place yourself in her situation, do it and then look at what she faces in the future. (You have a crystal ball? What does she face in the future? Why will it be so bad? I understand she's badly injured and somewhat disfigured, but she survived.) Hopefully you will see it from her standpoint. I hope that she can garner some income from this and be at ease. (I have no problem with cashing in on a media event. But I watched the interviews and, even with her boyfriend sitting next to her, she never even hinted at the fact that she may have done something wrong, or may be partially to blame) I also hope that others can understand that they also can find themselves in such a situation and will most likely do what it takes to get on with living a fullfilling life minus the pain and aggravation of mounting debt. After all, skydiving ain't nothing but a thing. Shayna on the other hand is a person in time of need. Let's all have alittle compassion for her and Rick. I cannot imagine how he feels for what has happened. It must be terrible knowing that your descision nearly cost the life of someone you love. (Funny, I'm sure they're both good people, but he was sitting next to her smiling. Didn't look too broke up to me) Leave them alone and just shut up and jump

I have to say, I am absolutely disgusted with this whole story. As far as I am concerned... she did not make a proper decision and does not deserve to disgrace our sport anymore. She needs to keep out of the "limelight" and keep out of our sport. I saw the "story" on the news, on Inside Edition and have had at least 100 co-workers comment on it. If anyone knows this girl - tell her to stay away from the DZ. She and her boyfriend are not welcome.

I have absolutely no pity for either of them. I don't care how hard up she is. She has no right to slander our sport, it's hard enough to bring people into this sport without the scott lutz's out there. People like this have real moral issues. To be able to attend multiple interviews and knowingly lie to the world and degrade 40K skydivers who are all having a hard enough time getting people to try out skydiving. Both of these people should be shunt by the whole skydiving community and that includes all of you bleeding hearts out there that have pity for these two self inflicting idiots. Once again this is exactly why people should be given IQ test before they are allowed to jump solo.

As I heard it there was a problem with her Reserve, is that true? If so what was the problem? When I first heard the story several things sounded funny, now I am getting a better picture but it is still murky.

Watching that white canopy spin down is getting really old. They were just interviewed on "The View", just before one of the Menendez wives. I didn't hear anything about the main opening normally and the screw ups that followed.

I think it’s funny that this video is all over the news. It just makes me look that much cooler to all my whuffo friends and family that I skydive.

Everyone is saying, “dude, I saw that video and it looks insane! You really do that?”

I stare at them with a self-satisfying glower and say “I’ve been there dude, and it ain’t pretty”.

Other times I say “It takes a certain breed of animal to handle a sport this intense, it’s not for everyone”.

I love saying shit like that to people! It makes me feel so superior.

All of you people are so eager to protect the image of the sport. Do you even know what it is that you are trying to protect?

Bad experiences deserve bad press. You just can’t handle it when reality rears its ugly head.

I for one am enjoying all the attention this sport has been getting lately.
