BillyVance 34 #3 December 13, 2005 Are you sure? I don't think it was that long ago that Airbus finished building the first one and sent it through the test flights... Heck, I don't know... I'll take a look at it again... Edited to add: what I meant to say was I didn't think there were any A380's flying commercially yet..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
champu 1 #4 December 13, 2005 Emirates won't receive their first A380 until at least October 2006. They have ordered 45 of them IIRC, but they are in line behind Singapore Airlines and Qantas. So, no it's not a real photo.

MarcusS 0 #7 December 13, 2005 Sorry Guys, but this is a real picture. It is one of the flight test aircraft, however is was in full Emirates livery and shown off during the Dubai Arishow on 25 November. Have a look at this cool picture during the last day of the show, where it was flying information with the french Aerobatics team "la Patrouille de France". micro 0 #13 December 13, 2005 thank you marcus for vindicating me... it IS a real aircraft... look at airliners.net, there are all sorts of different pics of it there... you silly doubting thomas'!!! I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
davelepka 4 #14 December 13, 2005 I'm guessing that in light of ordering 45 of them, the cost of painting up the first one and bringing it to an airshow is pretty low. They have to fly the thing around anyway, so you might as well build some customer good-will.

France doesn't have an airforce.. specially trained fighter pilots. MarcusS 0 #16 December 13, 2005 No worries providing vindication on this one. If it turns out to ba a fake, I'd better hand myself into the local lunatic asylum.....'cos I've been under the illusion that I've been working on the project for the past 2 years! As it happens, I'll be spending the day at the FAL in Toulouse tomorrow, so I can be amazed once again....that aircraft is a real beast! I don't think the feeling of awe will ever wear off, no matter how many times you see it! All it needs is a ramp, really big / even bigger wings to bring stall speeds down a bit and a drop zone with more money than they know what to do with....you'd get some BIG ways out of that one! I would like to see them build an A380 with the largest tail gate in the world, with TWO ramps! One for each floor! You could get a full 400 way out of ONE plane in a lot less time! MarcusS 0 #18 December 13, 2005 In the early days, a high density layou was put together assuming a single class, and no frills (gym, bar etc..) The aircraft was seating 960 people. Take all the seats out, and you'd probably get 1000 in there....so how about doing a 1000 way out of a single aircraft !
champu 1 #19 December 13, 2005 d'oh! Okay, I've updated my reading on this. What threw me was that Airbus has been repainting that same aircraft with the colors of various airlines over and over again and masquerading around on publicity tours over the last month. So all the photos so far of A380s from different airlines are all actually the same plane. (S/N 003 perhaps?) That makes sense now.
pilotdave 0 #20 December 13, 2005 El Al (the israeli airline) has put over 1000 into a 747 with no seats. An A380 could do way more than that I'm sure. Dave
