Songs That Make You Choke Up?

Okay,

I've put off starting this thread for a long time.

I'm a guy, and I like guy stuff (beats chest, grunts):S

However, there is music that I find very stirring. I find it odd how something as simple as a song can trigger an intense emotional reaction. There's something magic about that.

Anyway (thumpa-thumpa--SPLAT! [I just tore my heart off my sleeve and threw it on the floor and stomped on it]), here are some tunes that invoke a strong reaction in me:

"She Moves Among Men (The Barmaid's Song)", by June Tabor

"Where've You Been?", by Kathy Mattea

"Watermark", by Enya

"Predictions", by Suzanne Vega

"Mercy Street", by Peter Gabriel

"The O of Pleasure", by Ray Lynch

Edit to add: "Creep", by Radiohead (I hear that one in my head at dropzones), "Zombie" by The Cranberries, and "When She Loved Me", by Sarah McLachlan

How about you?

"In My Life" by the Beatles.

"Wind Beneath My Wings" various artists. Wings reminds me of my son who was lost in the Perris crash in 1992.
I don't care how many skydives you've got,
until you stepped into complete darkness at
800' wearing 95 lbs of equipment and 42 lbs
of parachute, son you are still a leg!

Yeah...that is a great song, VERY moving. I too have been to a funeral that has played that song/

A newer song would be "SKIN" (Sarabeth), by Rascal Flats, can't listen to the song OR watch the video, all the way thru with out Boo Hooing like a 6 yr old, change the song or turn the tv off.

Bobbi

"In My Life" by the Beatles.

My fiancé and I will be dancing to this song at our wedding reception in March. However Johnny Cash will be singing it. I don’t think I will choke up but the song (both the Beatles and Cash and whomever wants to sing it to us) is very special to us.

"Come What May" by Ewen McGregor and Nicole Kidman from Moulin Rouge. Absolutely my favorite song, but it always puts a lump in my throat.

I hate Rod Stewart, I change the station when I hear one of his songs come on, but "Have I Told You Lately" was played at a friend's funeral a couple of years ago. I always listen now, and I always cry.

Funerals are quite the place to make you choke up during a particular song.

Back in '93, a very dear friend of mine who was only 36 went to her daughters' H.S. chorus concert. They did 'Danny Boy' incredibly. After the concert was over, she was raving about that song and that she wants it to be sung one day at her funeral.

My dear friend Judy died 2 weeks later as the result of a car accident. At the funeral, the High School chorus sang 'Danny Boy'. There was not a dry eye to be found. To this day, whenever I hear any version of that song, it brings me back to that day.

There's other songs, but Danny Boy is so poignant for obvious reasons.

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don’t patronize - don’t patronize me

Chorus:
cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t
You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I’ll feel the power
But you won’t, no you won’t
’cause I can’t make you love me, if you don’t

I’ll close my eyes, then I won’t see
The love you don’t feel when you’re holding me
Morning will come and I’ll do what’s right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight

Chorus:
cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t
You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I’ll feel the power
But you won’t, no you won’t
’cause I can’t make you love me, if you don’t

fuck.
