Lukas Knutsson, gone but not forgotten

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know, I am coming back to the sport after a layoff. When one comes back, you never who is still jumping or, I am sorry to say, is still with us. Anyway, I was on SDmovies.com in the memorial section and was grief stricken to the bone when I came across the film for Lukas Knutsson. I had no idea he had passed and early in the day I was going through pics of my first trip to z-hills to send to a friend and came across a pic of me and Lukas Knuttson, my first instructor. Anyway, I was a 100 jump wonder from a cessna DZ and while I was amazed with being there, it was all a little overwhelming. Wanted instruction and out comes Lukas with the biggest smile from ear to ear. I knew within a few seconds that it was a perfect match. He was funny, wicked smart, and made me feel comfortable immediately. In three days my confidence and skills were on another level. This was a nothing short of a minor miracle since I came to z-hills having just survived a bad accident (no injuries, but only fluke luck saved me from going in). Anyway, he put me right back in the saddle and made me feel like that was just where I belonged. He was never without a smile, esp. in freefall and his enthusiasm was contagious to say the least.

He was an exceptional person among special people and I will never ever forget what he allowed me to do and how that still contributes to how I see myself. Love and gratitude are not strong enough words for him in my book.

If you remember, PLEASE raise a glass tonight in his honor....I know he is smiling, with beer in hand, and enjoying himself somewhere.

....you are missed, my friend. [:/]

finally, check out the memorial film on SDmovies (it's down now, sorry I can't post a link). The naked rig dance alone is worth the download time and captures his spirit so beautifully.

sorry to hear about the loss of your friend

I feel bad that it happened a while ago and I didn't anything about it, ya know? I think it says something about what he gave me that, years later, it STILL hit me like a ton of bricks.

Anyway, thanks Kris and Sink....it really does make me feel better he will be remembered tonight.

I was the one who downloaded that tribute from headdown.net and stuck it up on SkydivingMovies.com. I did it after reading this thread and learning that the original poster had been inspired to draw those fantastic illustrations by the Fastest Motherfucker video of Lukas. It's good to know that Lukas inspired yet another person.

I knew Lukas in real life for a very short time. I met him about a week before his death. Laughed with him, drank with him, partied with him, jumped with him, talked with him. Then I found an exit point that I wanted to share with him (and some other friends). Then I left town before we got to jump it (it was quite windy). Then I found out that when he had gotten up there the next day, it had turned out to be his last jump. We renamed the exit point "Cold Steel" for him.

Perhaps gone. Never forgotten.

Somewhere in Valhalla, Lukas is smiling.
