Frenchy68 0 #101 December 4, 2004 Rumor has it that SC does have a potent D as well... But I agree on the BCS. The system is flawed. Not sure what to use as a replacement though... In any case, good luck tomorrow. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return." pajarito 0 #102 December 5, 2004 Well, Auburn had a few sloppy plays but defeated Tennessee 38-28. Tennessee, however, was ranked 15 and played like a true SEC team. Hard as hell and never quit. The SEC is, no doubt, the best conference in the nation. USC almost got beat by unranked UCLA 29-24 (poor performance) and Oklahoma soundly defeated unranked Colorado 42-3. I mean....who the hell couldn't. Seems to be a trend with these two teams playing no-count opponents and retaining their lead over Auburn who is continually beating highly ranked teams. What a shame this system is! Looks like Auburn will go to the Sugar bowl and probably won't even get to play the next best team. Tennessee, however, was a victory to be proud of as they were a very worthy opponent. Great game! AUBURN TIGERS 2004 SEC CHAMPIONS In closing, I direct attention to my signature line below. pajarito 0 #104 December 5, 2004 QuoteNo doubt about. BCS is clearly broken. Looking forward to a repeat of last years "national champion" fiasco if Oklahoma beats USC? I'm still fuming after listening to ESPN's comments. It really pisses me off. Does anyone look at strength of opponent? Anyone look at how many times Auburn has defeated teams in the top 10? Oklahoma beat the snot out of an unranked opponent. Everybody's oooing and ahhhhing over how they looked. Garanteed, they wouldn't look as pretty if they were playing somebody in the top 25. I mean, damn... Man, I'm more uptight about this than I was about the Presidential election.
pajarito 0 #105 December 6, 2004 Auburn dropped in the polls after the "rivalry" Auburn/Alabama game despite winning solid because it wasn't a blowout. USC plays their rivalry game against UCLA and the result was even closer. However, it doesn't phase them in the polls because the context of the type of game is taken into consideration. Why is it that an SEC team like Auburn seems to have a higher standard? While both USC and UO are playing unranked opponents, Auburn is defeating ranked teams such as Tennessee twice! BillyVance 34 #106 December 6, 2004 Believe it coming from me, Auburn deserves to be playing for the National Championship. They've done everything they had to do. First SEC team since Tennessee in 1998 to go 9-0 in the conference, and Tennessee won it all that year. So did Florida in '96 and Alabama in '92 after going 9-0 in the conference. It sucks. Tuberville had a good suggestion to fix the BCS, no polls until halfway through the season, then rank the best performing teams in order, with no influences on how they did the year before. At least it's a more viable option than ordering an extra game be played after a 4 team playoff in the bowls. Or, maybe next time Auburn won't schedule another Div. 1AA patsy like Citadel. True, it wasn't their fault that Bowling Green opted out of the contract and played Oklahoma instead. The contract was over 10 years old and the buy out was only $200K, where nowadays it's 3 to 5 times as much. If there's another coach and team that has been screwed out of the national championship more than once after perfect seasons, it's Joe Paterno at Penn State. At least once in the '70s and the last time was '94 when he went 12-0 (who won that year?). No system has ever been perfect. There probably never will be a perfect system. Last year, everyone was once-beaten. This year, 5 unbeaten/untied teams, 3 of them from major conferences. The last time we had 5 teams was 1979. Well, Auburn still has a faint hope of winning a split of the title from the AP poll. If USC and OU play a god-awful game, with blocked kicks and turnovers galore and OU wins 10-9, but Auburn blows out Va Tech 50-0, the voters might be swayed enough. The AP poll had USC ranked #1 at the end of the regular season last year, so they gave USC their title after winning the bowl game. USC is #1 now in the AP poll, and if OU beats them 10-9 or something similar and look bad doing it, why not vote a dominant Auburn team ahead? Anyway, my hats off to Auburn on a fine season. I'm glad they beat Tennessee. I hate Tennessee much worse than I hate Auburn. Playing Auburn's like playing against your brother or cousin. Tennessee is just the vile, hated enemy north of the border. And uh, oh yeah... Roll Tide! Frenchy68 0 #107 December 6, 2004 Keep the preseason rankings. Have each team play 9 games to adjust the rankings. Then have a mini tournament, starting with 1/4 finals, involving the top 8 teams. Single elimination to the title game. Of course the team ranked #9 won't be happy, but at least you'll have a clear winner, without having to play 15 or 16 games. My thoughts. If we can't beat Auburn on our field, we should at least make ourselves at home on Auburn's field. Don't fret yet though, Alabama's still not at full-strength yet. I believe our sophomore class is the first full recruiting class after the probation enforced cuts ended, so we won't be at full strength for another 2 years. We're losing some real good linemen on both sides of the ball this year too. Of course, gotta have a good quarterback to make it all work though, and we have that in Croyle, as long as he doesn't tear up his damn knee again. One thing I am looking forward to as well is how many teams on our schedule will have new head coaches? We'll catch South Carolina in Sept., hopefully before Spurrier has a chance to get his new team really going. There's also Ole Miss and Florida, and maybe LSU (if Saban takes an NFL job). pajarito 0 #110 December 6, 2004 Yup... Spurrier should suck up some of our recruits from the region. Sucks. I enjoyed it while he was gone because he's just so damn good. But I also kind of liked having him around because I liked to watch him fly off the handle.
BillyVance 34 #111 December 6, 2004 Yeah, me too! Spurrier was one I loved to hate. I got great personal satisfaction from squeaking by his team in the Swamp and then smacking his ass around in the Georgia Dome at the 1999 SEC championship. Just seeing him standing all glum made my year. I just hope we'll stomp his ass at S.C. next Sep.!"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

I don't give a shit about the BCS, but this will be the first time in an awfully long time that I won't watch the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is supposed to be Big-10, Pac-10. Regardless of who participates, it is almost always a guaranteed sell-out, and is (this year) essentially meaningless in the grand scheme of things. In my opinion, since it doesn't matter in dollars or rankings, the selection committee should have stuck with Cal for the Big-10, Pac-10 tradition. Huge, as in, she knows everyone on the sidelines because she was a trainer for the football team when she went to UGA, we have a 'G' flag hanging from our house (in Idaho, where people ask us why we have the wrong colors on our "Green Bay stuff"), she has a big red SUV with a 'G' plastered on the back, and people here often ask her what her car tag (UGADAWG) means. I think she went to four home games this year (remember, we live in Idaho). Frenchy68 0 #120 January 1, 2005 I totally agree on the Rose Bowl bullshit. Also, isn't the championship game next year supposed to be played at the Rose Bowl? If so, does it mean that the game will NOT be on January 1st? There could be a ROSE PARADE without a ROSE BOWL????? BillyVance 34 #124 January 1, 2005 Well I have to admit that I couldn't understand why the Rose Bowl picked Texas over a California team that came within 9 yards of beating Southern Cal and going 11-0. What bothers me is coaches whining and bitching about where they are sent off to, that job's for the fans. The coach's job is to get the team ready to play. Guess they weren't ready, huh? I liked it better in the old days before the BCS took over, and we had all the old conference tie-ins and match-ups.
