What should I get?

Recommended Posts

I wrecked my truck pretty badly last night, not totalled, but close. No worries about me or the other guy, we're totally fine, in fact his Dodge Ram looks like it barely has a ding in it. My Ranger however, is done. Never been in a wreck before, and it was my fault to boot.

In the midst of the chaos, I need wheels and fast. Don't have a lot of money and although I'm in love with my truck I should probably get something with better gas mileage. Ideas? I'm shopping...

I was in a similar situation, but they ended up repairing my truck instead of totalling it. (which was bad) Anyways, I was looking at a lot of different vehicles and was wanting to try to get a used Jetta. You might want to look into those. If not you can always get a stripped down Ranger for a good price, it is possible to set them up for decent gas milage. I'm guessing you probably want something that aids you in getting to your usual hobby spots, right?

Since you are used to having cargo space get something like the WRX wagon, Mazda 3 wagon, Ford Focus Wagon, or VW Golf. All except maybe the WRX get good gas mileage and should be fairly easy to find used, also all of them have sporty styling so you won't feel like you are driving a grocery getter.

I really think my next vehicle, if its a truck, will be a 4-door and I'm going to put a top on the bed so to make it easier to carry stuff in weather without hoping the tarps keeps everything dry.

Then again, I've been threating my wife to get a 1984 3/4ton diesel suburban for when we have kids.:D Chevy tank!

Just get a Dodge Truck!

I swear by Dodge Trucks.

I have owned Dodge trucks for 12 of the last 14 yrs. I had to settle for two yrs b/c of a wreck, but the truck saved my life. The Doctors were amazed.

If you ever make it to Z-Hills girlie I will show you the Pics. It is incredible what I survived.

Of course everything I have survived is pretty incredible but nonetheless.

The hell with gas mileage. Those vehicles also have smaller tanks so you end up filling up just as much. :S It is silly.

Man, you guys are going to con me into getting a truck again. Well, I just know I'm fucked right now lol... I wish the insurance company would give me a break, stop calling and ending the conversation with "have a nice day." Woe is me :S Wah.

I love my Civic. Its gone off road a few times looking for canopies/freebags. Don't recommend it though. :D

If you need the cargo room. you can pick up a used Escape/little SUV for cheap right now since the market on them is quickly dropping out. Gas milage is half what I get now, but you have cargo room if you need it.

I've got a 13.5 gallon tank and go 350-375 miles between fill ups if I watch my usage and about 325 if I don't and I usually fill up at about 1/8 tank left. At the $3 gas thing it was about $35 to fill me up vs the $90 it was costing a Suburban to go the same distance.

I'll have you know the Mazda 3 5dr isn't a WAGON!! It's a HATCHBACK!!

I drive one and love every minute of it. Got rid of my 01 Silverado for it.

My company credit union has a mint 03` Protege5 for sale. It's got less then 11k miles 5spd and looks brand new. I think it's in the 11-12k range. You could get it financed for 48 months easy with good credit.

Drop me a PM and I'll get you more info.

Oh ya.. the Protege5 became the Mazda 3. B|

I like the Jettas....and the new 06 Jettas are big! Okay on gas mileage...31 highway if I recall correctly.

I'm in the market for a new car and I'm in love with the Passat.

Not sure if I want to spend the dough for one or just get a cheapy new car. We'll see.

I'm not going to go Ford or Mercury again though. I still need to check out Toyota, Hyundai and some others.

My Toyota Matrix fits 4 comfortably with gear. Looks stealthy and sleeps 1 comfortably if you're 5'4" and under. It get's somewhere around 30 mpg. Plus it's under 20K so you don't mind trashing it. I like the Subaru WRX too.

Glad you're ok!

I have a Pontiac Vibe, which is made at the same factory as the Toyota Matrix, and both look very much alike, with a few cosmetic differences. The main difference is the price tag, with the Vibe a couple grand cheaper or so.

First of all, I'm glad to hear that you are okay.

Got pictures of the carnage?

Are you asking to borrow a car temporarily after admitting that you just totalled your own, and it was your own fault? That's a tough sell.

Do you have rental car coverage on your insurance?

Anyway, I've got a spare 98 Riviera you can use if you need it. I'm heading out of town tomorrow around noon in my Blazer for a weekend of hiking & camping. So if you want to borrow the Riv', call soon.

I looked at those too. It is pretty much the same car. The only reason I didn't get it was the resale value. I figured I'd get more for a Toyota with 100K miles on it than a Pontiac with 100K but who am I kidding? I'll probably drive it to the ground!

That's pretty much what we do with our cars, with the exception of the Toyota MR2 Spyder, which we traded in for the Vibe. The other cars are a Mazda Protege with 184K miles and a Toyota Tundra with 130K miles... both are still running fine... B|

The only car I have right now is used for business and I need a personal car. I live in a city and take trains/taxis everywhere and I want a vehicle I can take to DZ's, the mountains and the beach. I haven't decided yet but I just might get this. It's the last year they made the original Jeep Wagoneer.:)
