Beer Vs. Cancer

Recommended Posts

Oh yeah, just what I needed a new excuse to drink beer. Taken from beerleaguehockey.com

It turns out that beer hops contain a unique micronutrient that inhibits cancer-causing enzymes. Hops are plants used in beer to give it aroma, flavor and bitterness.

The compound, xanthohumol, has several unique effects. Along with inhibiting tumor growth and other enzymes that activate cancer cells, it also helps the body make unhealthy compounds more water-soluble, so they can be excreted."

Fer real, check it out.

With the help of the local strip club, I will be funding (in th eform of 1 dollar bills) research that will prove that nake dtitties stimulate the release of micro-nutrients that help prevent cancer. Anybody that wants to participate in this study is welcome and all field research should include pictures and phone numbers.

Its not unique, but it was first discovered in hops. There is a world of difference.
Its part of a a group of chemicals called Xanthones. It was discovered over 10 years ago and its hardly news today.

Drinking beer will give you NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER because you would need to drink somewhere in the region of 120 gallons per day to consume enough Xanthones to gain a positive effect of any kind.

You can get some of the real facts here:

Im sorry GrendelKhan, im not having a go at you personaly at all as you are just copying a link to a news page so this is directed more at them. Its a subject thats very very close to me and touting round false or misleading claims of 'new' finds like this can give dying people suffering from cancer false hope. People die because of false information like this being peddled.
Its in the news so it must be true right?

Sorry. Liike I say

I like to brew really hoppy beer.

I just made a 5-gallon batch of IPA. I used 3 ounces of hop pellets in it total, and when I rack it to the secondary fermenter, I'm going to dry-hop it with yet another ounce.

This beer will have way more hops in it than the crappy mass-produced beer. So you won't need to drink nearly as much.B|

(BTW, this is the same recipe that took second prize in the Pale Ale category at the Frederick County fairB|)
