Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Now that it's here though, I would have liked a bit more even if it were longer.

Do y'all think an extra 30 minutes or so would have been better to flesh things out a bit? :)

You should have seen the crying from TLOTR's from so many people about it being SO LONG... babies, old people with butts that go numb from sitting in padded theator seats. The director's cut from each of those is 4 hours long and each is better because of the extra development.

This is a great opportunity to keep all the scenes in the movie and issue a "Director's Cut" when the DVD comes out for sale. I'm surprised the first three didn't do that.

Snape - was really disappointed with the lack of screen time. Rickman is outstanding in this role. The one short scene in his office with the veritaserum was fun.
Moody - absolutely stole the show. Nothing less I would expect of Gleeson.
Skeeter - a very weak character with poor acting, IMO. Richardson is a solid actor that gave a mediocre performance in this movie. They could've left her out, even though she's a big character in the book.
Siruis Black - Oldman is one amazing actor, and he also got shortchanged in this film. But he'll get his due in the next movie.
The kids are still doing a great job of acting, but they look WAY older than 14 :P

I actually enjoyed this movie, but it's fairly easy for me to suspend disbelief on a regular basis. I enjoyed it immensely...until the kid behind me vomitted an ocean of bile onto the back of my seat and created a creeping carpet of yuck for the rest of the movie. :S

I was somewhat disappointed...I thought it was rather thin and not much more than a series of scenes slapped together as opposed to a coherent and cohesive whole.

The "flow" just wasn't there as in previous installments.

Now I'll read the book and find out what really happened.

I prefer to see the movies first and then read the books because it's so rare that movies adequately render the books.
My reality and yours are quite different.

One of my coworkers has not read the books and she felt the same way about the film.

I guess I would probably feel the same - I was able to fill in the blanks.

A little more character development for the other champions would have been nice - Fluer didn't come across nearly as haughty as she is. That would have made the whole "Ron went insane and asked her to the dance" thing funnier. Also, I thought Viktor was supposed to have been a bit more "bookish", despite his jock appearance. I thought that was what attracted him to Hermione in the first place.

They didn't really highlight their skills to show the age and experience difference between Harry and the others, which is a big part of the drama.

I agree. Those of us who love the books and have read them more than once fill in the blanks without even thinking about it.

And I also agree about the other champions, Fleur especially. Another missed opportunity- she really should have been much more of a siren.

When I watched it the second time, I realized she REALLY wasn't very champion-like. I mean, ze Grindylows weren't even a problem for Harry, and they just showed her spazzing around in the maze... I would have preferred a much tougher bitch, especially after MadEye/Crouch Jr's endorsement.

edit: I know she wasn't supposed to finish the second challenge, she just went down without a fight...

Totally agree- I also think she should have been way sexier. All the boys were supposed to go gaga over her, not just Ron. She is part veela and all!;)

Sigh. Another li'l tidbit that got cut... I was hoping they'd show the team mascots too, and they never even covered the whole leprechaun's gold thing, which had further ramifications...

I guess you can't make everyone happy, especially the fans who know every little detail! ;)

I thought he was just hanging around the library a lot because he liked Hermione :) But yeah, Fleur wasn't portrayed all that well. After all, she is supposed to be the best of her school. I envisioned her as much more haughty and cocky too. All she did in the movie was get scared and cry a lot. Normally, I don't care for movies "beefing up" female characters, but in this case, they went too much the other way, for sure. And it would've been cool to see both the Veela and Leprechauns with the fake gold.

About 5 minutes in some asswipe sat in middle of theator and he was obviously gasoline soaked for some reason or the other. It's always great to leave a movie with a blinding headache.
