RhondaLea 4 #1 November 17, 2005 Over the years, I've taken the time to observe both my own posting habits and those of others. When I am happy and feeling normal, I don't post much, but I do email/talk a lot with a very small group of people (and if I'm in love, I generally neglect all but that one person). When I'm unhappy or depressed or both, my posting volume increases exponentially, but I don't answer my email (or my phone). I've noticed a tendency for others to spend more time online when their real lives are lacking something. So how true is it of you that you post more when you're trying to escape the real world and less when your real life is going well? rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. plowdirt 0 #3 November 17, 2005 Well, yes. all the way around. I post for fun, I post for ?'s, I post to piss people, well, not piss them off, really just to make them think. And right now I'm posting with my daughter.(and sometimes I'll just post to back people up. oohh and those newbies, what kind of influence would I be if I didn't help them towards the light. MOST OF THE TIME I'M SITTING BACK LAUGHING MY ASS OFF. How you been rl ?
freeflir29 0 #4 November 17, 2005 With me it has nothing to do with how life is going. It's just about how much time I have to sit in front of the computer accomplishing nothing but wasting time.
sinker 0 #5 November 17, 2005 ya know, I'm glad you started this thread... I've thought a bit about it, and I've come to the conclusion that one of the reason that I post here is that in some way I "need" some of the friends I've made on here. I "need" the connection to people that fly. They give me a sort of release and companionship that I don't get from any other source. Not one of my "in person" Nashville friends has ever jumped nor really have the desire to. Also, to some degree you are correct... if I'm feeling a "hole" inside, my post #s increase for a time, as I shrink away from "live" contact and shrink into virtual ones... but I'm seeing that this is far from the main reason for frequencies of posts. -the artist formerly known as sinker

RhondaLea 4 #7 November 17, 2005 QuoteHow you been rl? Life sucks. Can't you tell? Twenty-four posts (this is #25) in the last 24 hours, one email answered because someone really pissed me off, and one email answered so I could tell a friend exactly how pissed off I am. Edited to add: Oh yeah, one more wherein I made a total, irredeemable fool of myself to someone very important to me. Nothing of quality, nothing of use. I'm guessing your life must be going pretty well if you have the little one to help you post. yardhippie 0 #11 November 17, 2005 I post when I have time, which with my job is a damn lot most the time. Also its an easy way to keep up with friends, events, and random internet fluff.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #
Squeak 17 #12 November 18, 2005 So RL by your own critirea you are either unhappy or depressed, because you have started posting a lot more in the last couple of weeks. AggieDave 6 #13 November 18, 2005 I post a lot more when I happy then unhappy. Then again, lately I've been MUCH too busy to post much.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
RhondaLea 4 #14 November 18, 2005 QuoteSo RL by your own critirea you are either unhappy or depressed, because you have started posting a lot more in the last couple of weeks. Are you unhappy or depresssed Well, part of the posting more over the last few weeks has to do with my job--it's a long story, but I have times at work when the only thing to do is log on. Those are times when I'm not in a position to be doing what I'm supposed to be doing, but feel compelled to keep my mind occupied anyway. (My boss is elderly, and he likes having someone to talk to and I can't get him out of my office. I can't do anything productive when he's talking, because my work requires concentration, but I can post.) And then a few days ago, I did something incredibly stupid (having nothing to do with work), and I am outstandingly miserable as a result thereof. Under the theory that if I'm posting, I can't obsess about it (yeah, right), here I be. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. For me, this is one of those times. I'm an idiot, and you may quote me on that. Thanks for asking. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. kelel01 1 #15 November 18, 2005 My posting habits are much more related to my proximity to the computer, not happiness or unhappiness. When I worked in front of one for 8 hours a day, I had nothing better to do. Now that I actually have to seek out a computer to post on, my posting will drop way, way off.
