No idea what caused the canopy to blow. Any ideas?

I was renting but I was told by the shop less than 200.

That looks a lot like the canopy I jumped there a month or so back...If it is, I'd say 200 jumps would be on the high side unless someone has been really using it lot since I did.

I would venture to say it was not a manufacturing problem in regard to the failure type, again....if it's the same one I used, S.C. rigger Tracy and I went over it extensively post deployment because I wanted to compare the cell design, stitch per inch and line attachments to my new, similar size flag jumpin' canopy made by another company.

It would be similar to the canopy you jumped but I blew this thing up in July. However, most of their canopies are the same colors. So I'd say you may have been jumping the 189?

I never added this to the discussion back when it happened because I had forgotten about it but 2 safire2s blew up in as many weeks. The week after it happened to me, another guy who is all belly, blew out a cell on his safire2.

Unless you were traveling very high speed, it should not have mattered much. You'd be amazed at how quickly you slow down. A few seconds on your belly flat, legs straight, arms palms down basically superman style, looking down, you'll go pretty slow in just a couple seconds.

The extent of that damage makes me believe the canopy was enroute to failure at any moment and
you were just the lucky one.

If the canopy opened so hard to cause failure, you'd have know it. Brisk is brisk, REALLY hard is like an auto crash, sometimes worse.
My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Nope, same size...I up sized for carrying more weight and wanted to see how the Saf's flew compared to my new Zpo from Strong.

Now that you mention it, Tracy was telling me about the 2 that blew up, and what he thought was wrong with 'em ~back when I was there at your DZ.

First of all don't let "ping pong ball" headed guys work on your canopy!

Secondly, did you ever see how jumpers treat rental canopies? A lot like rental cars, rough! I see the young'uns at the DZ drag their parachutes through the dirt, sticker bushes and across the runway. I really enjoy watching them pack up with sticks in the cells. No surprise you blew one up. Throwing nylon into wind has never been an exact science!;)
