RkyMtnHigh 0 #1 November 9, 2005 Is it a jump # or age thing or what? when I first got into the sport, I was all about the initiations and being part of every initiation/group but now someone can approach me about another group to initiate into and I'm just so over it. I'm just curious how many want to be part of every "group" that's out there or are you over it too? _________________________________________
BillyVance 34 #2 November 9, 2005 The only groups I ever really joined was "No Cheap Beer" and "Them Toadsuckers". The NCB fad has faded but the website is still up: http://crwdog.servebeer.com/skydive/ncb.html see if you recognize any of the names on there. Them Toadsuckers are known for their CRW exploits and legendary after-hour parties at the DZ. As kkeenan likes to say "what happens at the DZ, stays at the DZ." lawrocket 3 #3 November 9, 2005 I wanted to be part of some of the groups. Unfortunately, I was always gone within a half hour of the beer light going on. Those damned responsibilities. I think initiations and things are nice things for those that want to be involved. But, I also believe that they can be overdone. To each their own. My wife is hotter than your wife. Usetawuz 1 #4 November 9, 2005 Yeah. I think it is probably a jump#/age thing. The two are pretty much tied together. Early on it was all about recognition. Now we pretty much know who we are - and are comfortable with it. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
SudsyFist 0 #5 November 9, 2005 I've been over initiations, hazing, etc. since I was, oh, um, five. Absolutely no need to fit in to any group. Yes, that explains a lot about me.

RkyMtnHigh 0 #9 November 9, 2005 Quotethen why do you still list your Pink Mafia & Rodriguez Bros. #s? ~hollywood Because I was at the "home dz" of the PMS which is Gold Coast at Moss Point MS and I still support them as they are going thru a tough time and regardless I support but dont actively promote PMS...make sense? I have many many more "groups" and initiations I've taken part of however I don't list them in my sig line since it's just too many and just a bit much...which is the POINT of my thread. _________________________________________

happythoughts 0 #12 November 9, 2005 I think it is social. Even as adults, a lot of people have a problem walking into a party and just starting conversations and mingling. At a new dz, it is a little harder (especially if you have low experience). Clubs organize people and festivities. "A party will be here... some drinking planned... a band... costumes" They provide locations and events. It's a good thing. Different clubs have different central themes - CRW, skydiving, partying. Something for everyone. As you get to know people in the sport, it becomes less important because you know enough people to just show up and find people to do stuff. seatac 0 #13 November 9, 2005 I never really understood the whole initiation thing anyway - especially the stupid barbie doll thing. What's up with that anyway - I thought the Barbie doll represented men's perfect vision of what women should be and not at all represented real women in today's society - so why is it used as a symbol of a women's skydiving club? Besides - I think it would be cooler if you had to learn some series of transitions or style of flying - like the old school handshake only evolved to a whole routine flown in the air. That would be cool - but the dolls and stupid shots from the body... how lame. But that's just my two cents.

What is not to like about body shots? I hope I don't get this serious. I hope that I can contribute a new standard of silliness to skydiving so that others can look over at me and smile while we are in freefall. My goal.
