skycsar 0 #1 May 28, 2008 We're a FS team, and need new gear, one of them main canopy...last 6 years we use only Stiletto...but now we have new team members who have only 150-250 jumps...so we cant give them high performance parachute...we need safe canopies...and it must little bit small...the newbies weight 70-80 kg...so what size must be? and model choice? Thanks...
dragon2 2 #2 May 28, 2008 Sabre2, safire2, pilot, fusion, spectre, triathlon all come to mind. A max wl of 1.2 is advised for that jumpnumber so a minimum of 170 sqft should work for the 80 kg guys, maybe as small as a 150sqft for 70kg but 170sqft would be better for those too probably. ciel bleu, Saskia
erdnarob 1 #3 May 29, 2008 A guy with 150-250 jump ready to join a 4 way team should be able to jump with a load factor of 1.3 If the new guy weights 80 kg or 176 lbs + 25 lbs of equipment = about 200 lbs. With a medium load factor of 1.3 that makes a canopy of about 150 square feet ZP canopy. Again if the new guy is not used to such a canopy give him a good briefing for landing. Sabre 2 is a ggod choice.Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.

piisfish 140 #7 May 30, 2008 if you want something that packs "small", go for a Spectre or a Silhouettescissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Baksteen 84 #8 May 30, 2008 QuoteA guy with 150-250 jump ready to join a 4 way team should be able to jump with a load factor of 1.3 I have to respectfully disagree with you there, causing a slight drift from the main topic. Being good at freefall doesn't automatically mean they are ready for 'high' wingloadings / small canopies - especially now, in the Tunnel Era. Besides, 150 jumps mainly concentrating on FS-skills (I assume), pulling at three and parking until ready to enter the pattern. How much time/interest to develop the appropriate canopy skills is left?"That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
erdnarob 1 #9 May 30, 2008 Of course we didn't know the canopy skill of the guy but as a team mate he should get a lot good advises from the 3 other guys of the team. It's not like being left alone with a small canopy. And a 150 ZP is not a small canopy either. I go using the loading and 1.3 for a guy of say 200 jumps is fine. Being overprotective and leave a person alone is maybe worst than advising for a 150 ZP and make sure the guy is well briefed.Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all. skycsar 0 #10 May 30, 2008 150 ZP main canopy performance...I think it is dangerous because landing areas...we dont have all time DZ and some years we go to normally aerodome...and jump to unprepared areas and at unstable weathers...as you understand safety of landings is important for us...and we re 10 people...5 of them jumps with stilletto...we buy for other new 5 guys... What happens to the team if your guys break themselves jumping canopies that are too small? Getting new jumpers up to speed is going to be a lot more expensive than the depreciation you'll take on new containers and canopies. Most containers sized for 170s are going to be safe down to a 135 which is a nice (but not the funest) size for a 200 pound exit weight.
