I finally bought an IPOD

The only downside is you can't load songs from a cd that is copyright protected. It may be only the companys like Sony/BMG cds and the program they use to protect the material on the cd from being copied.

This is actually a huge buzz in the tech industry at the moment. The software installs "under windows" and your anti virus can't even see it. Sony has come out and admitted to it. They've also uploaded a cleaner to their support page.

The whole thing stinks of greed. I hate it. :S I bought the fucking CD now let me copy it you bitches!

That's exactly the way I feel! If I bought the cd at least let me copy it to my ipod. I'm not even sure I will play the cd's in my computer and that sucks!

3 - Hard drive and flash?

drive = moving parts...more susceptible to break down and more vulnerable to damage from shocks or drops.

It also uses more battery power (less battery life, in general) than a flash-based player...

OK, now that I've blown all this money on the IPOD I got a whole long list of stuff I wanna get to go along with it:

The JBL speaker thing
the FM receiver
gotta update the USB card in my computer to 2.0
gotta get some kinda carrying case to protect the IPOD.

also, my car radio/CD player is dying on me & I've gotta replace it anyway. maybe I could get something that lets you plug the IPOD into it or something.

ah, the wonders of our capitalist society.:P guess I'm gonna be feeding the American economy this month.;)

I feel sorry for the artist Sony decided to "infect" their products with this DRM crap.

I've heard this so called "fix" isn't all that terrific, has anyone here heard anything about it? I'll have to go find what I read about it. Quite an interesting read. I suggest everyone email Sony to voice their displeasure, I did, but of course I haven't had a response.

Here it is:

The patch that Sony has just released does NOT uninstall the software. All the patch does is to "uncloak" the hidden files and registry keys, so that you do not have to be a Master Windows guru to find what it has installed.
To actually uninstall the mess that Sony has made, you have to call up a special number at Sony and explain to them why you want to uninstall their software. They will then ( maybe) send you another program that, suppossedly, will uninstall the program. Lord knows WHAT that will install.

The new"patch" can even makes things worse... as discussed in the links. All they have done is made it easier to find the Registry keys and files that were altered, but if you try and remove these keys and files, you will have an inoperable CD\DVD player and probably no Media players as well. That is because the Sony DRM program alters Kernal files ( key operating files in the Operating system ). One of them is the API.dll which controls CD\DVD recognition, playback and burning.

Now Microsoft has to be partly responsible as well. Windows XP was suppossed to be more secure. It was not suppossed to allow changes to be made to key source codes. I guess MS does not consider Windows Media Player to be a key source code. What MS has done is open a whole new wide open back door for " Hackers"....and that is all that Sony is...A Corporate hacker. Mac users do not have the problem, because Macintosh REFUSES to allow DRM ( of any sort ) to modify source code. Same with Linux. You cannot play the nefarious Sony Copy Protected discs on a Mac or Linux...because the OS system will not let the Copy Protection software install.

It gets worse folks. Now the latest is that these Sony CD's with the Copy Protection are in very high demand......by Hackers and Crackers. They've now discovered a ready made program, that allows them to crack any system wide open. Many online games have a small program that scans your system while you are gaming. They are looking for cheaters ( People modding the games to make their players faster or less easily damaged. ). Now World of Warcraft hackers are utilising the Sony RootKit to hide that information from the online scans.

At first you may think..big deal....a few gamers... so what? Here's the so what....how long before the Virus Hackers get a hold of this? Oh Happy Days!! Life is about to get a LOT more interesting. Thankyou Sony, RIAA and lets not forget Microsoft.

Hooked pretty much summed up everything I've read and discovered.

Sony/BMG not only screwed over it's own customers.. they got the artists, the gaming community and gave the hackers and skriptkiddies more fuel.

yep. you could put a bunch of skydive videos on it & carry them with you. You could take it to a bar or a party for example & show people the videos on the little screen, or plug it into a TV & watch it on the TV screen. B|
