Logbook program?

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I'm a newbie skydiver. I've finished my AFF-course last weekend.
In my spare time (when it's raining) I study programming. For my final year project
I want to make an logbook program to log my jumps.
I wil use Java, JDBC and mySQL.
When it is finished I will make it available for free if there is any interest.
Is this a useful program for other people too?
What are the requirements for a good logbook program?
What should I log? (jumpnr, date, plane, equipment,...)
How would you like to request information from the program?
Can someone give me some good ideas?
Thank you very much in advance.

"programming it for the Palm OS"
You may be on to something there. I just looked around the L&BG site and all I saw was Win 95-98,NT and a MAC version. They did have a request link for differen't versions though.

It should automatically log: jump number, date, and accumulated freefall time.
There should be room to log: place, type of airplane, altitude, length of delay, distance from target, type pf jump, lots of room for logging what really happened, witnesses/ a place to sign, etc.

Also, you have to think about what people have available to use on their server. I found out that I dont have MySQL and it would cost me $35 per month instead of $10. Maybe something like Perl/CGI would be better since almost everywhere supports that. (Right?)
Also, maybe you can get ahold of "JFIELDS" from here and talk to him about the logbook. He has made one for himself and has expressed interest about that. You two could probably make a kickass program together. Who knows...maybe you two could put it out there and see if some people would like to pay you for it on a donation basis.
Good luck!
