If you, Jeff, and Rebecca are planning to stay..we should get together Saturday. Wilma is expected to be here in West Palm around 2 am Sunday. Cat 5 right now, but is expected to weaken to Cat 3 once in the Gulf outside Ft Myers.

That would be fun :)
But it depends on when it hits and how work works out for me. I work til 11pm on Saturdays and if my company goes into shutdown mode there's a chance I'll have to stay in the building during the hurricane. I like doing that because we have gens(I don't lose net access) and I get paid a nice bonus for staying overnights for hurricanes.

Rebecca would probably be on alert too.

Becca has a generator so I say we go to her place and watch movies:ph34r:

I have not been keeping up with news over the past year but everytime i watch or read the news it seems you guys in the States are going through Hurricanes. Florida sounds like it is getting hammered over and over.

All the best guys, I can not imagine what you must be going through.

I would like to ask a question though. Does insurance cover you with these hurricanes? Also, is it really worth living in Florida with so many hurricanes putting fear among the place and ripping through homes?

I can only dream of the sunshine you get but it seems the hurricanes can make you forget about that pretty quickly.

Good Luck to you all and your families, I have a spare tent here in the UK if anyone ever needs it.:P

Yes, although the deductible is pretty high. The people who live on the beach front have a hard time getting insurance, so there was a special insurance company set up for them by the state. Because there were so many claims last year, the state has decided that the rest of the Floridians are going to help pay it off. I think we'll be having about $600 added to our property taxes next year for them. We're paying the claims for the rich people who can actually afford it. Nice, huh? :|

I or none of my friends and family live in fear. At least with hurricanes, we get about 5 days notice to decide what we want to do. We all know the drill now. Earthquakes and tornadoes are more scary to me because they come on suddenly.

Nah, it's the humidity and bugs that make us forget. ;)

How many hurricanes have you been through? I've lived in the midwest for 28 years and have only once seen a tornado, and that was way in the distance. Even then, I was 600 miles from home anyway.

Are you talking about Citizens? It isn't just rich people along the beach who have Citizens (the state-funded insurance). I live nowhere near the beach, and I have Citizens because my prior company dropped me (along with many other people in my county due to "sinkhole exposure"...yeah, right).

People all over the state, both inland and along the coast, have Citizens because they've been dropped by other companies. As soon as another company takes on new policies in my area, I will switch. In fact, Citizens has to let you know if another company is available, and then you switch.

Citizens sucks, but many people (both rich, and poor) are stuck with it at the moment.

Did anybody realize this?

This is the first time in recorded history that we've ever had three category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic basin in the same year!

Also, a weird coincidental fact is that all three, Katrina, Rita and Wilma, all end in "a".

Of course! That's what I was referring to, or I'd have been banned from DZ.com by now... :S

Just to be sure, in NO WAY was I referring to ANY female DZ.commer as a bitch. And if I did, I did it in a loving way. ;)

We're gonna be fine. Big baby. ;)

It's supposed to weaken a ton before it gets to Florida. Although they did move the track just a tad north.

The Yucatan is sucking. Merida is packed with evacuees from the east coast. According to an email from my dad, the streets are like a ghost town, with curfews in effect for tonight.

:ph34r:Corey, you're such a smart ass:D. Our curfew begins at midnite over here..they're saying around 2-4 a.m. we'll start seeing the winds/rain and all day have winds as high as 100 mph. I hope "they" are wrong. The part I'm not looking forward to is the loss of power ..what a pain, but forecast is a cool front behind Wilma.

Please be safe over there..I'll send good vibes for the safety of your kitty.

Enough already. The past two years have sucked with storms. :([:/]>:(

In West Palm, we're sorta ready...we're hopeful that the low pressure out west and north will force the hurricane south of us and even better would be south of the Keys. If that happens, we'll just get the high winds and rain on Saturday and all clear by Sunday sometime.:)

I just don't understand why Wilma would maintain strength after making landfall near Ft Myers to continue across to the east side of the state. Many from my area are already planning to evacuate northbound sometime tomorrow.:S

Hey, I remember West Palm, was staying there while on contract 3 yrs ago and living right by the bridge to Singer Island.

Hope that fing hurricane doesnt go screwing everything up. Id kind of like to remember that place for what it is and not a barrage of rubble left behind by yet another hurricane.

Singer Island and everything east of A1A has been evacuated already.

That would include the motel/apt I used to live in for 5 mos, and alll of Singer Island? Allright it better not fuck up Singer Island...I was planning on visiting back there someday. Have great memories of that place. Tell that damn hurricane to stay TF away from Singer I.

I was living just between A1A and the intercoastal where they have the jet ski rentals. That was about 3 yrs ago.
