Rebecca 0 #26 October 19, 2005 Did I say Florida would NOT be damaged or disrupted? No. Did I say I WANTED it to hit Florida? This is one of the worst hurricane seasons we've ever had (on record). The 'canes are coming and they're gonna hit SOMEWHERE and there's not a damned thing we can do about it. It was actually a sort of twisted compliment that I think Floridians can deal with it better then Louisiana. Ya'll are stocking up and securing property and making plans to leave or shelter right now, right? Most of your buildings are built to withstand substantial winds, right? You're simply better at surviving hurricanes because you have to be. Poor Louisiana nothing - the state and surrounding gulf coast areas would fall apart like a soup sandwich if another big storm hit... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? Paige 0 #27 October 19, 2005 QuoteIt must suck to live in Florida sometimes... Good luck with this one! Only if you don't fly in the tunnel or have time booked Who do you think FPL (FL Power and Lighting- or something like that we have a dif. company in DeLand) gets up and running first? You bet your sweet ass after hurricane Charley last year the tunnel was one of the first businesses with power and there were people flying! Flying at SVO can make almost anything better No dissolutions for me Quoteit'll suck, but it won't be the worst FL has seen... Last year was a biotch for me esp. in addition to everyone else in the state. At least it's a little humorous... Break myself on Tues., surgery Sun., out of hospital on Wed., hurricane Charley Friday. One perk of being broken: the Holiday Inn parking lot was across the street which would have been impossible for me to get to if we had to evacuate. My dad asked the hotel to park by the building, they said that was fine. The next morning after the hurricane, the parking lot was full of car and truck glass. There was gravel on a near by business roof and the rocks were pelted through the entire parking lots windows. Not a single one left Thank goodness our rental car was next to the hotel, sheltered and safe!Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
RhondaLea 4 #28 October 19, 2005 QuoteDid I say Florida would NOT be damaged or disrupted? No. Did I say I WANTED it to hit Florida? It was a thoughtless post. I understand your point, but it was still a thoughtless post. You have always seemed to me to be more caring and thoughtful, so it makes no sense to me. Instead of being defensive about the unhappy reaction to your words, how about you just give some consideration to how those of us in the prospective hit zone might feel about what you said and about how you would feel if someone said the same about Texas. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Rebecca 0 #29 October 19, 2005 Sorry about that - I most certainly did not mean to be thoughtless. I did feel like I was attacked, not by you, but I guess I let that defensiveness carry over to my response to you. My underlying thought was that Florida knows how to prepare and take care of itself - frankly, none of the other gulf coast states are as good at it. I understand what you're going through - I was in Rita's prospective hit zone when it was spinning up into a Cat. 5. It's freaking scary. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: QuoteAlthough the storm was not expected to approach Florida until the weekend, some residents began buying water, canned food and other emergency supplies early. Many said they take every storm seriously now, after witnessing the devastation from a succession of hurricanes that have ravaged the southern United States. "People have learned their lesson and know better how to prepare. We're not waiting until the last minute anymore," said Andrea Yerger, 48, of Port Charlotte, Fla. She was buying material to protect her house, which had to be gutted because of extensive damage from Hurricane Charley last year. Taking storm seriously: check Stocking up: check QuoteForecasters urged Florida residents to closely monitor Wilma. The state has seen seven hurricanes hit or pass close by since August 2004, causing more than $20 billion in estimated damage and killing nearly 150 people. 7 hurricanes, 150 people = about 20 people per storm. QuoteForecasters said Wilma should avoid the central U.S. Gulf coast devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which killed more than 1,200 people and caused billions of dollars in damage. 2 hurricanes, 1200 people = 600 people per storm, and most of that was Katrina anyway. That's all I meant by any of it. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

kimgriffin 0 #31 October 19, 2005 Thanks Broke, I like that website (intellicast). Saved it as a favorite - I live in DeLand, Fla, so sure it will come in handy. I'm with Arlo, a storm that is just big enough to keep us hunkered down at home f-ing off as we watch shit fly by the window is fun/exciting. But, as long as no one is hurt and there is little property damage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for our west coast friends that Wilma slows down before smacking in to land. Damn, and I was going to go to the beach this weekend. Bummer.

You need to witness these things first hand to understand the full impact. There is a poster on here who has seen way more than I and can tell you about it. I just cannot think of their screen name off hand. I am tired of hearing about poor Louisiana. All they want is hand-outs. Maybe they should learn how to work together and do things to help themselves. Have A Great Day! K-MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! "HESITATION CAUSES DEATH!!!" jmpnkramer 0 #36 October 19, 2005 It's been confirmed: Hurricane Wilma, with a pressure of 882 mb, is the most intense hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin. Quoteit won't be the worst FL has seen... No, it won't be the worst Florida has ever seen. It will possibly be the worst anyone has seen. .The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! tso-d_chris 0 #37 October 19, 2005 Some differences between Florida and LA is that Florida's population is primarily at or above sea level. We weren't better prepared last year than the Gulf folks this year. We just got hit by less devastating hurricanes. If Katrina had hit FL instead of the Gulf coast, many would have lost their homes and/or lives. Had Charlie moved as slowly as Jeanne or Frances, instead of passing over the state in a matter of a few hours, things would have been much worse. Riding out the storm and surviving is a testimony of luck, not preparedness. Preparedness helps with making it through the aftermath.
Rebecca 0 #38 October 19, 2005 Do you read posts before you jump all over people's asses about them? I did NOT apologize to you. WTF? How the fuck did I become persona non grata around here? ALL I SAID IS THAT FLORIDA DEALS WITH HURRICANES BETTER THAN LOUISIANA! Am I wrong? Christ! Now that you've pissed me off, who's fault is it that you live in hurricane alley anyway? Not mine, and not the weather's, and not the government's. Get off my back. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? lisamariewillbe 1 #39 October 19, 2005 Okay peoples time to get the fuck out. I hope all on the gulf coast and inland/ within range are making their plans to leave. Its official Wilma is cat 5 and the worst recorded hurricane ever. Lets just hope she loses some intensity and that people can get out in time. I dont think Rebecca was being mean in her post. When she made that post Wilma was little more then a rain storm. Just the fact that she posted shows she has concern. However those that are in the vicinity and saw what happened last year, and that there is still construction going on are sensitive because of previous storms. Sometimes we make light of situations when dealing with them. If anyone needs anything let me know. Dont forget to check in with us dz.commers when you can. Be safe.Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
Rebecca 0 #40 October 19, 2005 Thanks LisaMarie. I was scared when Rita was approaching, especially when it became clear that our jacked-up evac. meant I had no option of leaving. Because Florida has been through massive storms before, they have better plans in place and are realistic about the aftermath. Houston did good in getting people out of the way, but the whole op just highlighted how unprepared we really are in the event of such a catastrophy. For the record: I have A LOT of concern for all of you in Florida. I hope you're doing everything you can to prepare for this. It's gotten so strong so quickly... Ditto what LisaMarie said - don't forget to check in and let everyone know you're OK. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? GogglesnTeeth 6 #41 October 19, 2005 OH work this weekend will be fun!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr They are already planning the news coverage for this, and of course it will be insane. Yet another of the 500 reasons I need to quit working in television!!!! I asked my S.O. what she was planning to do about Wilma, and she said that she might go up to Orlando..... I'm like that's not gonna help ya much, it's gonna go right across the state......... Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!"
missg8tordivr 0 #42 October 19, 2005 QuoteQuoteQuote Hey...they don't know that for a fact yet! It is quite possible for it to hit anywhere in florida. I am okay with a hurricane partay! But it isn't going to be at my house...way too many trees! Hmmm a hurricane party with you in that avatar position? Should be fun! Seriously, I've never seen a hurricane go from 70 to 175 mph in just 24 hours. That's just absurd... The good news is the forecasters expect it to weaken once it gets in the Gulf due to prevailing weather patterns. Still, a category 3 will be devastating to areas hit hard last year. Keep your eyes on this one. That picture was actually taken at a partay! Katrina, strengthened that quick too...plus it was moving quickly.....one of the reasons that no one was prepaired.*** F LORIDA! Wilma is expected to be here in West Palm around 2 am Sunday. Cat 5 right now, but is expected to weaken to Cat 3 once in the Gulf outside Ft Myers. That would be fun But it depends on when it hits and how work works out for me. I work til 11pm on Saturdays and if my company goes into shutdown mode there's a chance I'll have to stay in the building during the hurricane. I like doing that because we have gens(I don't lose net access) and I get paid a nice bonus for staying overnights for hurricanes. Rebecca would probably be on alert too. I told them not to wait too long. Question for the meteorologically-inclined: how and/or why did this thing strengthen so quickly? Yikes! Vibes and prayers to everyone in Florida!
