Sorry...had to laugh with your comment "not taking the piss...." Oh, and I'm not taking offense...just cracking up laughing at the differences in meanings due to different cultures. Your comment brings to mind a visual of someone doing the "pee pee" dance and having to run to the restroom/bathroom/whatever you call it in various countries. You'll find that I don't agree with threats either and feel that someone who threatened you with violence needs to apologize to you as well. The apology comment comes directly from having looked at the dog thread. Your sense of humor along with one or two others that I've noticed or met (Hi, JRAF! ) is controversial and when someone's in pain not usually the best way to approach it. You mentioned in that thread that you've undergone a lot of loss recently so I'll assume that you therefore understand the pain of loss. I'll even give you the assumption that you were attempting to get the individual to laugh at your sick humor or somehow get them diverted from their pain. When you noticed that your comment went over like a lead brick and hurt the original poster, not continuing in the same vein in that thread would have been your best course of action - and an apology that your sense of humor caused more pain. In person, people will get a lot better feel of who you are - sense of humor and all - and more than not will be willing to have a or two with you. Unfortunately, the internet doesn't express humor very well. From what I've seen/experienced, people in this forum are quick to try and welcome someone into the fold - even when they've "stepped in it." So, my suggestion would be to make it obvious when you're joking so that people "get" your sense of humor.Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Yeah, i've undergone a load of heart ache, i lost my mum back in March of this year, terrible times... BUT, i know that many people go through similar stuff, so i just deal with it in my own way and keep smiling. I genuinly didn't mean to upset her, it was meant as a joke, it was the playground "lets get him" mentality of everybody jumping in that got to me. I would have said sorry straight away if that hadn't happened... but seeing the knee jerk reaction happen that you get on a lot of forums, i couldn't help myself but to play along and "yank a few chains" as you put it.
