Rig or Skydiving trip to Florida?

Ive got a decision that needs making. We are arranging a trip to Skydive Space center. I have also been given the chance to purchase a very nice rig but i cant afford to do both. Rig or trip?

If you don't already own a rig I would invest in one. But you don't have to buy top of the line brand new stuff.

If you need the rig and it's a good deal, go for it. It may not be available if you do the trip and then save up money again to buy the rig later.

You can always plan the trip later on...

Its a 2nd hand kit from a lad at my Local DZ. Good condition and not many jumps so its not too much. Ive never been to the states before so would love to go but really want my rig.

Buy the RIG!!!!!!!! Then you can go on the trip to Florida later..........spend a lot less, jump a lot more! Hell the winter season is just getting started. You still have 4 good months left and then the summer in the rest of the states! BUY THE RIG!

I would go for the rig too. I put the order in for my first rig two weeks ago and it's going to be so nice to just throw it in the car and go. No more having to borrow (which I am eternally grateful for those that have let me jump their rigs) or renting gear. WAHOOOO!!! Hopefully, it will be here before I head out to Eloy.

Get your rig. We'll still be here when you make it over to the States.

Deffinitely buying the Rig now! It would have been nice to do both like. Never been over there before so would have been good to go but as you say, once ive got my rig then i can jump more, spend less and not have to borrow/hire kit.

There's nothing like having your own rig. All of a sudden you can actually practice your canopy flight (and your packing skills )on the same canopy every time.

I would get the rig if I had the chance to! For now, I am stuck borrowing rigs from my very gracious friends that are wishing that I would just 'get a rig already'!

Im going to get the rig like. I did have a rig but when i got it, it didnt have an RSL or AAd on it and i was only A license so could not jump it. I then had the problem of having no job so no money which meant i could not afford the bits "n" bobs it required. I was well behind on payments etc & the only thing that i had which was of no use but had some value was the Rig so i had to make the decision to sell it. Now i have a job, money etc i can affrord all me bits "n" bobs

With your jump numbers you should have your own rig. Buy the rig that way you don't have to worry about paying for rentals. When you rent gear you have no return on investment. When you buy a rig you can always sell it when you want to upgrade, or keep it around as a spare. For those of us who live up north the winter is a good time to get gear because we don't have to worry about paying for jump tickets at the same time... unless that is you jump at the Ranch in NY. I hear those crazy guys jump all year... brrr

Rig, rig, rig, rig, rig.

It was hard for me to jump before I got my first rig b/c it was like the price of two jumps to rent. I was used to doing maybe one jump for the whole week-end. The first week-end that I had my gear, I did 7 jumps. I was on every load but one the first day, and THAT was b/c I couldn't pack fast enough to get on that one b/c I was still new to packing.

Get the rig first. Florida will always be there, that rig will not.

This is a decision only Salomon could come up with:

Come to Florida - stay at the Titusville bunkhouse instead of a hotel - you save at least $50 a day.

Contact Dave at Sunshine Factory and ask him to find you used gear - I bet you $5 that you will find cheaper used gear locally that anywhere else in the world.

In effect - come to Florida, purchase gear, be happy, skydive, get drunk. I'll see you in Titusville bro!

Space Center is a very nice DZ and you'll have a good time there if you choose to go. I would go with the rig, however, and visit space center later. Do NOT buy a brand new rig for your first one. Used is the way to go.

If you go to Space Center, make sure you get a big assed Texas Margarita at El Leoncito's restaurant.

If you buy the rig now, you will look at it in your closet all winter long and will not get to skydive till spring.

If you come to Florida now you will have loads of fun, and after that you will be able to save money till spring to get decent gear.

Rig.

Not having a rig is costing you money, because you have to rent gear every time you jump. So, get the rig, and put the money you don't spend on rental away to spend on a vacation later.
