Jeep takes a dive -- from a helicopter

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

FREE PRESS STAFF REPORT

Jeep dropped the Jeep Commander, a new SUV, from a helicopter at 1,200 feet Wednesday in an open field at DaimlerChrysler's proving grounds in Chelsea.

Four parachutes opened to guide the Commander gently to a grassy field.

Seven professionals from Skydive Chicago jumped at the same time from another helicopter, landed next to the Commander, hopped in the vehicle once it was on the ground and drove away.

Jeep was publicizing the Commander, a new model assembled in Detroit and arriving at dealerships this fall. The company was also annoucing a partnership with Operation Gratitude, a non-profit group that sends letters and care packages to U.S. service men and women overseas

Skydivers Jenny Verner, Steve Verner, Dave Cicciarelli, Bill Hughes, Mike Wood, from Skydive Chicago exit the 2006 Jeep Commander after taking it for short a post-dive drive

Mine as well along with Roger, Melissa, Rook and Nanett, not a bad crew to learn from;)

We're totally spoiled. I love it.

I am not so sure that a vehicle that size would require 5-Cargo Cutes. Maybe they used that many for safety sake or something.

I mean if I am not mistaken a HMMV only requires two. I would have to check. You can ask SLotperfect. He should be in the know.

Me three, and Steve V. was the cameraman on our TFX 10-way team.

I've got you guys beat!

Dave was my first TM, and my instructor for most of my AFP jumps.

Steve flew camera for my first tandem video.

Jenny flew camera for my friend who did her first tandem with me on my second.

And Sarah was my coach for the New Wave Boogie.
