I think the spot was right on if we were diving straight out on go, it was the climb out that took way too long on that night jump. The videographer hesitated for a good while. We all went from total jubilation to total horror in about 10 seconds! "Ohhhh fuuuuuck!" was the consensus reaction after we all opened our chutes... Most of us landed in the fields just north of highway 60. I landed on a shuttle bus parking lot that had a circular driveway with a grassy infield about 30 feet wide and 60 feet long or thereabouts. I stood up the landing on the grass. That was about 100 yards west of the airport entrance and the only place where I could "see" a clear patch of earth to land on. One guy had to knock on a nearby house and ask the owner to call the airport for him. The videographer had a cell phone with him and called our other videographer at the airport saying he was okay but didn't know where he was. When he finally showed up nearly 3 hours later, he had mud on his jumpsuit up to his knees! Had to use his flood light to help the searchers locate him... what a jump, we'll be talking about that one for years... A Deaf World Record 3 point 8 way SCR night jump, what could possibly go wrong??? uh, D'oh!!
