Employment question. . .

Recommended Posts

Just wondering. . .

Are you doing anything close to what you wanted to do for a job when you were little? What did you want to be and what are you doing currently? Are you on the path to get there or have your ideas changed? I'm on a tangent of the path I had chosen in college, but am starting to wonder my end goal is what I really want -- it'd be a much bigger time sacrifice than I'd imagined (and I like being in control of my time).

Probably not.

I wanted to be a fireman. I am currently a full time Skydiving and Wind Tunnel instructor, among other lables.;)

They've changed, and the constantly do.... I've never been one to think "I can't do that". I've been a Pro Radio Mix Show DJ, Resturaunt Manager, Record Store Manager, Night Club DJ, Office manager for several skydiving related businesses, gear sales associate, business owner, ect.....

Time is one of the most valuable comodities we own. I quit some jobs because I didn't have the time to enjoy life, and you can't get it back......

Growing up, I had a ton of different ideas on what I wanted to be - fitness instructor, wildlife photographer, vet, dancer, piano player for an orchestra.

Trained as a classical pianist for 10 years but knew I didn't want to make it a career.

Enjoy working out but know I couldn't do it for a job.

Dance when out with friends to go dancing but couldn't see me making a life out of it.

Photographer - still dabble a bit...not as much as I'd like, yet.

Grew up and went to cosmetology school so that I could do hair. Got into the business and found out it wasn't for me.

Worked for a bit and found out that I loved making computers do what they say they can't. Went into programming for a few years.

Got sick of being laid off and decided to finally follow one of my original dreams and go back to school to become a vet. So, now I'm on the path of becoming a vet and will enjoy the fruits of my labor in approximately 6 years. :D And will, hopefully, find a position in the vet industry part-time while going to school.
Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.

I agree with Joey. Happens that I am a Principal an IT Consulting Firm, and I love what I do too....

I wanted to be a computer geek ever since I remember, but the consulting has been a plus.

Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. -Hellen Keller

Psst........

Put a space between your sig line and the body of your thread. Or else people will continue to read it when they are reading your post, and after some time, they are going to get upset because they are reading it over and over again. That is unless you are Helen Keller and you are trying to draw some kind of parallel to being a flight attendant and having an adventure in your life;)

Not even close. My job makes those who knew me then laugh their asses off. I wanted nothing to do with making clothes when I was a kid; today I make jumpsuits.

No. I'm unemployed. But when I was employed I hated my job. Sooooo . . . fuck it. Somebody just give me money for doing menial labor, and I'll work until I win the lottery. Then I'll fly/drive to every one of my old bosses' houses, ring their doorbells, flick them off when they answer the door, tell them I have a shitload of money now and I'm blackballing them in their industry, and then go home to my feather bed/down comforter and sleep soundly.

THAT'S what I want to do. ;) Doesn't pay well, but it sure sounds fun! :)

Wanted to be a photojournalist when I grew up. “Real life” kinda took over for a while, but two years from now I’ll be discharged from my current life. After/during my walk up the PCT I’ll work on my photo skills. After that, who knows with the GI bill.:)

My dreams of finding a Sugar Daddy so I'd never have to work still haven't panned out for me.

Pro Radio Mix Show DJ
What are your job duties for that one, and how do your bosses evaluate you?

Keep the PM (Program Manager) happy. Make sure you get the songs in your mix that the PM has asked for (to keep ratings up), don't let you shit sound sloppy, and keep the flow movin'.

Most "Mix Shows" are pre-recorded, as were many of mine. Spend 2 to 3 hours for every hour you have brodcast, and that doesn't include time spent finding music. Did I mention the pay sucks?:D

Yeah.

Always knew I'd be involved in something engineering-based. Spent the last five years working as a software developer & now run a development team. 50% coding, 50% management. Just about right at the moment.

As for the future, who knows. We'll see...

Just wondering. . .

considering that I wanted to be a pcikle; no, I am not doing what I wanted to do when I grew up.

but I am a fairly talented musician,. I traveled to foreign lands and enjoyed other cultures, I've been snowboarding in 2 countries (Could've been more but I didnt board at the time) everyday I actively take part in ensuring america is safe. on many frdiay evenings I donate 3-4 hours to help out a local homeless shelter that I otherwise have no affiliation with. I've been a published author of my own creative writings on at least three occasions.( not counting letters to publications that have been printed, I mean articles and creative writings) I have seen my name in laser lights in washington D.C. b/c one of theose writings.I've hung sideways on rock faces just because I felt like it and I have even been known to jump out of an airplane on occasion.

all in all, I would say my life is and has been pretty "fuckn A "cool. I have also seen my share of low's

I remember watching the T.V. show Emergency with Gage & DeSoto Squad 51. I thought they were so cool and alway played paramedic. Well it took me awhile becuase at 16 I kinda turned into a motorhaed and decide I wanted to be a mechnic well that lasted about 5 yrs. until I realized I HATED IT. So then went to college & got a degree in respiratory care.3 years later went back to school and got my paramedic license and loving it!

Yep..........I wanted to play with guns and blow things up when I was a kid. So.........I joined the Air Force and after wasting 3 years finally got to do just that. The job itsel lost it's luster after 6+ years and the Air Force had become VERY old after almost 10. So.......I left. Spent 2 years working in an office and if it wasn't for skydiving to satisfy that "risk" gene I would have gone nuts. Quit that and was sort of a cop for the next two. The bullshit piled up REALLY fast there and there were now private companies that would DOUBLE what I made there. So........I went where the money and action is. Now I carry a gun every day in Iraq and occasionally get to blow things up AND I am paid very well for my time. Not too many complaints these days except that I have to spend 90 Days at a time away from everyone and everything I love in the States. I've done OK for a dumb redneck from Georgia with no college degree though! B|
