disabled tandem

Recommended Posts

This week-end i had another opportunity to video a tandem where the passenger suffered from MD. It's amazing to see them in freefall how happy they are. I wish more disabled people would come out and experience skydiving. from going from a wheel chair to flying the feeling must be awesome for these people. I've seen quite a few different ways tandem masters strap their legs. It would be cool if maybe RW could make a harness that caters just for the disabled. I left my camera up at the farm but i will try and post some pics:)

do you realize that when you critisize people you dont know over the internet, you become part of a growing society of twats? ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?

All i did was video and pick his legs up while hanging out of the porter:D Mike G is the one who took him on a tandem. I just think more disabled people should skydive. Seeing the guys face on landing is priceless. Its times like this you have to step back and realize how lucky we are:)

Years ago at the old Spaceland, I was on the load when Kevin Gibson did a tandem jump with a chick that was confined to a wheelchair. As I recall, the story I got was that she was a local who liked coming to the DZ just to watch the jumps.

That was in the early days of tandems and almost certainly among the earliest tandem jumps with a disabled person. I could tell Kevin was a bit nervous, but he was all smiles and encouragement to his passenger. I think everyone on the load was a bit choked up and maybe just a little teary-eyed seeing this beautiful young disabled woman taste the freedom of skydiving.

I have since seen a few tandem jumps with disabled people, including a young blind woman. To say the least, it is a very inspiring thing to witness and I think the tandem masters who have done it, no matter what else they have done in their lives, have represented the sport and themselves in the most positive way imaginable.

I'm in a wheelchair (paraplegic) and I can definitely say it is nice to get out of it every so often and under a canopy!
I think one of the coolest looking jumps from my perspective was the one I did while sitting in my chair. As the canopy opened the chair fell away. How symbolic is that?

That is fucking awesome. Glad to see your disability is not holding you back from nothing. I want to try and promote skydiving in the Atlanta area make these people see that being disabled will not hold you back. Can you believe this shit i was once at a DZ where some disabled people showed up. Paid for a skydive etc etc etc.., After their jump i wanted to buy them all anoher skydive because they all had such great attitudes...The DZO got all pissed off god knows why but i am in skydiving to have fun and make other people have fun..I think more people such as your self should promote this sport.

If she's the one I remember coming out (quad in a purple wheelchair?), I'm so glad she made that tandem. She was absolutely smitten with the sport. Kept trying to come up with ways to possibly jump safely on static line, but man it just didn't sound like a bright idea. Tandem was totally made for her, and I'm glad she got to fly.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Makes you think what would we do if the unfortunate were to happen. Doctors would tell us no but would we really give up skydiving because of being in a wheelchair.
