Somebody Explain This To me

Recommended Posts

Not only are fuel prices continuing to increase, but I received notice that the Federal Government is increasing the tax on jet fuel.
When buying a full load of 8,000 gallons those extra "few cents" add up quickly.

The DZOs are all trying to keep lift prices down.

We've been holding off for as long as we can by pre-purchasing fuel. Rather like playing the stock market, and now this.

Perhaps this is better in SC but that place skeers me!;)

Call me frustrated and vexed in Arizona[:/]

Makes me wonder how some of the smaller operators are dealing with the current issue

Raising prices flat out or adding fuel surcharges to jump ticket prices.

Southwest did that. They had some cash reserves and pre-purchased fuel by locking the prices in at the low-30s-per-barrel price.

If they were buying gas at todays prices, they would be operating at a loss also. Only part of their fuel needs for the next few years are still at the low rate, so their prices will be going up also.

I feel your pain. When I was managing Z Hills, 85% of all our revenue went out the door in aircraft and fuel costs, yet we still tried to hold jump prices at Cessna levels while running a flight line of four Super Otters.

If it continues in this direction, I can see that the only way that many places will be able to survive is a co-operative clubs, not businesses, like they do in Sweden. That way at least, there are tax advantages that can offset the other expenses.

It's either that or we all start paying real prices for the services that major drop zones provide.

I'm glad I'm not managing a big drop zone any more. It pried loose what few screws I had left. ;)

So let me see if I understand the logic (or lack thereof). A majority of the major airlines have filed bankruptcy because of rising fuel cost, so the government, in order to help, RAISES taxes on the fuel?

yeah that about sums it up!;)

It's not just the aviation industry, either. Friends of mine that own companies with big ass diesel trucks are suckin' over here, too. [:/]
